    SD season thus far….

Yea I remember talking to a couple other farmers out there about him and they said they couldn't believe how much land he had and everything he was buying. They said it was hard for anyone to compete against him when it came to purchasing land. Funny because one of the farmers only had maybe 600...

Iowa hunters, how was your opener?

Was out this weekend both Saturday and Sunday. Saturday had my limit by 8:40, only saw 4 roosters on my walk and a handful of hens. The group walking the other side of the field put up somewhere around 20-30 birds in the first 30 minutes. After that I went and did some scouting for the following...

    SD season thus far….

Sure would be nice if the rest of his land got put into CREP, I know there is probably still a couple thousand acres that are farmland that could be transitioned over. I never met him while I hunted that area years ago when I had family living out there but when we did hunt out there, he was...

    SD season thus far….

Glad to hear that the cover is finally coming in on those pieces. I remember driving around them the first year they were enrolled in CREP and the cover was only about shin high. Really glad that the farmer decided to put some of that land in CREP as he has tons of land in the area and recently...

    Iowa Public Trip

Only thing I would look out for is when IA has there deer season. Most public spots in IA that has even 2-3 trees will have deer hunters on it. I would avoid those weeks just to free up access for you.

    Iowa public opener

For opening morning, I would say the latest you would want to be to any spot is 7am, I see tons of trucks driving around at 6am. The guys I hunt with don't worry about it as we drive down the night before, go grab some dinner at a small local place and then go to our spot and sleep there in our...

    Spring Run

it's actually Dickinson County in IA, it's where Spirit Lake is located. If you look it up on OnX you will see the amount of land in the area and the spots he is talking about. I would guess in total the Spring Run Complex has somewhere in the neighborhood of 2000+ acres and is divided up...

    Might be a bismuth shortage.

From my understanding, it was between the two original owners of Boss. Not sure exactly what happened or what the fight was over but it's been resolved now. It's kind of funny because I have talked to the other previous owner who attends all of Pheasant Fests and is a big donor and he is a...

    Spring Run

I like the fact that birds are coming out, the problem is the size of that complex!!! It spans miles, I have hunted it numerous times and always shot birds. I will be out in that area this weekend on Sunday but not hunting that specific area. We have a usual Sunday spot we always go to and are...

    Might be a bismuth shortage.

One owner as of now, lawsuit was settled. I really like Boss and have a lot of their bismuth in my safe. I will say that the whole copper thing seems like a giant marketing ploy. For the longest time they only pushed bismuth and everything else was inferior. Now that bismuth is out they have a...

    Two dogs, two buddies strategy

Depends on the field, I would say more often than not we hunt together with about 20-30yds in between us. But there are numerous occasions where we split up and hunt completely different parts of the field. It really depends on the field and the cover and terrain.

    2025 season reports

went out Saturday morning to a spot we hunted last year on opener, my buddy and I both had our limits within a hour. Easily saw 50-60 birds on the piece. Hunted Sunday morning for a couple of hours until the heavy rain hit, I lost one bird and dropped a leg on another that wild flushed. Ended...

    2025 Season

Anyone have any updates as to how the Youth season went? I am guessing a lot of crops are still in the field but any reports would be nice, just trying to gauge what part of the state we are going to head to in November? We are pretty mobile, we tent camped last year the 2nd week of November at...

Start of Minnesota 2025-2026 season countdown

It will be a morning hunt for us, maybe the golden hour depending on how the morning goes. Hunt Sunday morning and head home after that.

    Scouting Observations

Went out this past Saturday morning to do some scouting for opener, weather was perfect heavy dew no wind and sunny. Got to the first field we had planned for opening morning at first light, and I was met with the sweet sound of roosters cackling everywhere. This piece of public isn't huge...

    New NW Iowa Pheasant Hunter

Get yourself OnX on your phone and just explore. Look for smaller spots as others have said and try to use natural cover breaks to pinch the birds to where you want them to go. Now this rarely works as they have been there and done that by the end of the first weekend but it's a good strategy...

    Trailer grease

As someone that has a camper with those axles, I can tell you that greasing them through the grease zerk on the axle really does nothing. I repacked the 6 hubs on my camper this spring and was surprised to see all the newer grease that was nowhere near the bearing. The grease goes in the hub but...

    Wet Crispi Boots

I have numerous pairs of Kenetreks and Crispi boots and have never had any issues with water in them. I have had water get in them but that's from crossing streams etc where the water goes over the top of the boots, but as far as walking in wet grass I have never had a issue.

    2025 Roadside Count

I think like any state it has a lot to do with the winter/spring/summer weather. We all know that even 10 miles can make a big difference in weather and how the birds handle it. It also has a lot to do with the pockets of habitat, if you find large areas with good habitat or counties with large...
