I've hunted Nebraska twice, first time was probably....2019? We had a banner hunt. Almost shot limits of quail and roosters daily all on public ground. Went back about 2 or 3 years later, same areas, same time of the year and we shot 2 quail in a week. Hardly even pulled my gun off my shoulder...

New O/U 20 GA for Pheasant and Ruffed Grouse

Won't persuade you here because I can't recommend the Browning 725 Feather 20 gauge enough. I bought one last year and enjoy the heck out of it. But as others have said, go in and check them out as much as you can and find what fits you best.

    Your "Go-To" gun and why?

My go to upland gun is either my Browning Citori 725 Feather 20 gauge in 28" barrels or the new model A5 16 in 28 inch barrels. The 16 gauge came first then I had the itch to get an O/U so I picked up the 20. Both guns fit me great but the O/U seems to be perfect for me. I'm a lefty so I need...

    MN DNR Survey

For me I'm a fan of it because our falls have been really warm, 80 degrees at the end of October is a bit much for hunting birds, so having a few weeks extra in January would help make up for some lost time. Hunting pressure also drops radically in late season. I spent a week in prime South...

    Pheasant Fest 2025 KC

I've volunteered twice at Pheasant Fest through my breed club. Once in Minneapolis and again in Sioux Falls. I'd have made the trek this year as I'm trying to be more active with my breed club but my dog will be having a litter in a few weeks so I can't get away. It's always a good time talking...

    MN DNR Survey

I like a fixed time myself. Since even on daylight savings time change, 9 AM is still 9 AM. The clocks change usually between Saturday and Sunday of our firearm deer season (it didn't this year but it's one of the first I can remember) so on opener I'm usually in my stand at 7 AM but the next...

That is quite the idea haha I mostly was angling at if you were someone in the know at the DNR haha

    MN DNR Survey

Agreed on the 9 AM start. It's early enough but still late enough to accommodate all the moving around on busy weekends. My main concern with a sunrise start time is safety, second concern is bird population. Imagine you've staked out a spot since 5 AM (you'd have to be there then if you can...

    MN DNR Survey

Good to know. Just curious, but how did you find that out?

    MN DNR Survey

Keep a look out in your mail for a survey from the DNR. I'm assuming it's going out to anyone who bought a pheasant stamp. Sounds like a couple changes are being discussed (All of which would require the legislature to approve, I believe, 2 for sure). It asks about how much you support or...

    The truth about Prairie Storm

I think they are. I've bought them at other places online (Midway USA, etc) and they say Wing Shok in the description, but the box that shows up looks like the one in the link above. I'm not huge on the flight control wad, I can take it or leave it. But I've shot the above shells for the last 3...

    The truth about Prairie Storm

I usually use these instead of prairie storm. Same ballistics as PS, but about 10 bucks cheaper a box. https://www.scheels.com/p/federal-premium-scheels-exclusive-ultra-pheasant-upland-12-gauge-shotshells/29465-XMP138-4/

    MN report

I've had days in MN on public land that were just as good as my best day ever in SD on public. That's all I'll say about MN vs SD.

    Uninsulated Boots??

I've had my Crispis for 2 years and put a lot of miles on them, still waterproof and holding up well. Just condition them every year per the manufacturer specs and you should be good.

    Air Wash

One thing I've been doing the last few years if I drop a bird that I can't find rather quickly, is to mark the spot and come back after a bit. Let that dead bird lay and stink in the grass a bit and spread their smell. I've been pretty successful doing that the last couple years.

    License check. Is this legal?

Airmeds example sounds nuts to me. I'm pro C.O. but man I wouldn't have complied with that one. In most states you're required to show your license to a CO while hunting. But if I'm at a gas station, no way would I comply without giving some push back, personally. If you're standing in your...

Another first timer to SD Post

One tip I'd give you for wild birds, is to always hunt the evening. Especially if it's warm. You're typically far more successful in that last hour of the day than you are hunting for 3 or 4 hours of a hot afternoon. It was warm when I went out here in MN a couple weeks ago, I sat out the...

    Poachers

Yeah whenever I see someone on private I'm just assuming they have permission. Not trying to have a Warden hassle guys for no reason. That said, I'd definitely call in anything blatant that I see. As for the deer in the WMA parking lot, I'd have called that in. Let a Warden decide how much...

    MN report

Yeah rained for maybe an hour where I was. Heard the guy at the front desk of the hotel that morning saying it rained a bit overnight too. Also didn't change anything for us, other than maybe helped the birds stink a bit.
