There is no Lyme disease in my area of southeast Kansas. Mostly all Lone Star Ticks here. They do carry Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever and Heartland Tick Disease, though.
We see a ton of them while waterfowl hunting in Saskatchewan, and always shoot some while we’re up there. Short stuff around wheat/barley sounds about right.
That guy f&$s up everything he touches, at least in regard to the wildlife in our state. Our deer, turkeys, and upland birds have all been negatively impacted by his actions. He’s probably more to blame than any other individual.
Some areas got drenched. Some didn’t get any. We got soaked in Manhattan. There was everything from tornadoes, pouring rain, 80+ mph wind, and snow today in my area. Now the air is thick with smoke from the prairie fires.
From those that hunt up there, I’ve heard that Iowa has been off the chain for the last few years. The birds have really made a tremendous rebound up there. Glad to see it.
A buddy of mine had several hunts like this just a couple of years ago in Western Kansas. It’s certainly still possible (on private land, with good habitat); just less frequently than it once was, for sure.
