North Central South Dakota Report 11/20 - 11/24

Well you have probably heard it a 100x already but there is almost no need for a full choke. Today's shells just perform well . I shoot ic and have hammered birds at 60 yards. I don't like to shoot that distance but sometimes a second shot is needed. I have found a huge difference in shells but...

    Hunting with two dogs.

Ran all 3 on more public ground this afternoon. 2 45 minutes runs. Not a single bird in the first spot but I wasn't surprised by that as there is fantastic private ground all around it. The second piece looked very promising with 2 dogs on point in the first 50 yards. It was a hen but...

So Bob Peters doesnt have to ask.😄

Karma is real guess which pair i wore out today? Not 100 yards from the truck and I remembered why I don't wear them out in the field. The heels are more important then the toes.

    Hunting with two dogs.

Yesterday I hunted all 3 for about 2 hours on a wpa. This piece has been good to me since the 80s. There has been no corn around it for years and it is in a area that gets heavy traffic. I hunted it for a hour 2 weeks ago and got 2 roosters. There weren't many birds , I got the only rooster I...

So Bob Peters doesnt have to ask.😄

That would work if the cover wasn't thick enough to stop a sickle mower.

What boots make it easiest to walk thru heavy cover? The flat ended ones, the rounded ones, or the pointed ones aka cock roach killers? Just having fun here.

North Central South Dakota Report 11/20 - 11/24

I have hunted a lot of cattail sloughs and thick crp weedy cover blanketed in sweet clover 5 foot high , but the growth this year is the thickest I have ever seen. I am waiting for a foot of snow to make things easier to navigate. At least I hope it works that way.

    Retire my hat?

FYI the dishwasher does a great job on cleaning up ballcaps. The power dishwasher not the betrothed one.

    Time for another e collar!!

The 550 pro plus is easy to use. I don't use a watch but my friend who does complains that the watch and transmitter show different info at the same time. The more advanced Garmins aren't that difficult to use if you use them enough to really become familiar with them. They do offer way more...

    Oddest Animal Pointed Ever

Few years back my dog wasn't pointing it but standing in 1 place so I got a "on point" vibration. I arrived to find my dog with a wth look on his face as he was looking at a pile of 🐫 dung. Almost the size of a poolball and covered about the area of a 5 gallon bucket lid. Some will have a...

    Oddest Animal Pointed Ever

Late 80s pointed a possum when there weren't any around here. Theory is they came in when hay from Kansas was coming here due to the drought.

What’s everyone using for non toxic shell’s? For pheasants

I have had great success with Kent Bismuth and Kent SuperSteel. I bought some Winchester Drylok 12 gauge 3" #2 and I think they are garbage.

    Another first for me.

Had another first yesterday. Shot a rooster that i believed i hit hard. It came down right along the edge of the picked cornfield and the slough grass. My 2 dogs were right after the retrieve and it looked to me as if they slightly overran it. Dogs ran back into the slough grass and a rooster...

    Cripples

After having my Sheeba who was a fantastic retriever I find myself anxious about retrieves. I do seem to hunt more while things are still green and it is way harder for the dogs then the dead grass.

    What grass is this?

From what I have seen the birds love it.
