    Upland Jacket With A Hood

These are decent. do not buy a size larger as mine ran large anyway. Wound up giving mine away as it was pretty warm and only 1/4 zip.

    Family

My brothers were 5 and 9 years older than me. They taught me how to squirrel and groundhog hunt at an early age. Safety was taught by a swift punch in the shoulder or a slap to the back of the head if I did something wrong. I always thought my dad was just too busy on the farm to take me. When I...

    Released birds - the numbers

I only went to S.D. once. I came away with the impression that there was no way a wild bird population could stand that much pressure.

    Franchi semi autos

Only one way to find out. :) To me that's a little steep unless unfired. 1200 would get you another decent sxs.

    Goldador retriever wanted

Totally agree. I can't believe someone hasn't bred a field bred poodle to a field bred lab to create a hunting labradoodle no one has really ask for.

    Franchi semi autos

Some say they're great. I used to hunt with a guy who was pretty good with his. My opinion is that they are too light and not all that dependable.

    Family

Start them young if you can. I loved nothing more than sitting by that monstrous radio on Sundays, listening to my grandfather, dad and uncles telling tales about dogs, guns and hunting. It's a Rockwell painting in my brain. As soon as my grandsons could walk, we were in the woods, fields and...

    Bird dog foreleg protection

I have a similar one. It's way too hot. Sylmar is a good one.

    Bobwhite coveys

This is a tricky one. I believe 5 is as low as you can go and still have some make it through the winter. Having said that, I think it all depends on how many other coveys are in the area. I have accidently wiped coveys out a few times and found a covey the next year in the same place. It's all...

    English Setters

I should have I've never been clearer; horseback trials are the worst. You'd have a better chance with Shoot to retrieve trial dogs. I've never been happy with a dog I had to constantly rein in with a shock collar. Besides, why go to all the trouble of trying to rein one in when you can get...

    English Setters

I hope we didn't talk you out of it. Don't get me wrong. In my opinion, the setter would be my # 1 pick for best all-around bird dog. It's just that you need to be careful to pick a dog from hunting lines and not field trial lines.

    English Setters

Here's how I read a pedigree. If it has more than one champion in the last three generations, I won't consider it. None is better. To many champions and you'll probably wind up with a dog you can't handle. If you have been presented, you probably know the breeder? Is he a hunter? Ask him about...

    Shooting Woes - Help Needed

ANY CLAY SHOOTING IS BETTER THAN NONE! Personally, I prefer skeet because it gets you to lead and follow through and those are the most important. I also shoot all my shots low gun to help quicken my mount. Sporting clays every weekend for the summer will put you at the top of your game, but...

    Your "Go-To" gun and why?

That's funny. Reasonable barrel length doesn't have a lot to do with it. Some of my best years shooting was with a 1100 special field. 23's if I remember correctly. Some maybe on the trap range but not much in the field.
