    Sling

I leave the “holster” on the stock all season (that way It is consistent for shooting) and then leave the sling in the car or in my vest until I need it. I’ll usually drive between 4-5 spots each trip. I will use the sling on long walks or towards the end of the day. Good luck with yours!

    Sling

I wear a Tenzing vest. Seems to work OK with that vest. The shoulder strap is specific for LH or RH use, not both. I like the fact that when in use, the gun’s muzzle is pointed in a safe direction, and it helps position the gun well for shooting. Takes most of the weight of the gun off your...

All Hail the Mighty Ditch Hunter

Too many issues in Colorado for me to hunt near a road. Can’t shoot from the road, can’t shoot over the road, can’t access private property to retrieve a bird without permission, I believe there’s no public right of way between the road and a fence on private property, and then cars going up...

AKC/UKC hunt tests for Upland Lab

IMO You certainly can do both. HRC has an upland test/title and the HRC Grand 5th series is an upland test. And, if your lab points, there are APLA hunt test which include an upland component. I’m by no means close to an expert when it comes to hunt tests. Hunt test friends tell me that a dog...

    Hunting motivation

I’m highly motivated! Hunted 3 days a week from mid October to the end of January. I have 3 labs and they each get out once a week, barring injury. I’m most interested in watching the dog work to find the bird. I have zero interest in shooting a bird from the road, which is illegal where I...

    Holster

I’ve used this over the shoulder sling with success. https://upland-sportsman.myshopify.com/ It’s good for long walks. I believe that it’s available for left or right handed shooters.

    Pointing Labs

Some labs point naturally and others, I’m told, are trained to “point” or “stand game”. My guess is that at some point in the past labs were crossed with pointers. All puppies from dogs titled as “pointing Labradors” do not point. The first pointing lab that I can recall in my area was a...

The Battle of Being Left Handed

The LH 690 that I have has a right hand lever, as does the “neutral cast” 686 SP. And, the CZ Southpaw has a right hand lever too!
