    Muck/Rubber Boots For Upland

I've used Muck Boots for probably 80% of my upland and deer hunting for years, even out here in southwestern ND. I use the the lighter types until it gets cold and them switch to the heavily insulted arctic-types. Took me 5 years to wear out a pair of Edge Waters, just yesterday I replaced...

Dog Starting Heat Cycle - Bring for SD Opener ?

If there is a single intact male in the group, leave her home. Unless you are a breeder, why not get her spayed?

Franchi Affinity 3 Upland Elite 20 Gauge

Meant to put this in the Guns & Ammo Forum. Mod, feel free ro move it. Yes, for reasons I don't readily see, the mag spring seems way stronger than needed so loading is a bit of a test. I don't have another pump or auto that is remotely as difficult. My wife loves her camo Affinity 3 20...

    Winger Cautionary Tale

Back in June I had set up two Zinger Wingers and was training the Wrecking Crew. About halfway through the session I was cocking one and engaged the turnbuckle on the bumper pouch to the trigger, but I did not notice the trigger hadn't engaged the sear. As soon as I let up, it fired with my...

Franchi Affinity 3 Upland Elite 20 Gauge

Picked up a Franchi Affinity 3 Upland Elite Select in 20 gauge. Where has this shotgun been my entire life? It's well under 6 lbs and fit me well. Shot a couple hundred rounds on clays (the Benelli Rep recommended 4 boxes of the heaviest loads I could get to break it in) and fell in love with...

Stock fitting in Minnesota or Wisconsin

Ahlman's in Morristown, Mn have been my go-to for smithing and stock work for years. I just sent them an Orion 20 gauge to shorten the LOP...

    Black Cloud for Pheasant

If you have to use non-toxic shot, IMO 2';s are the way to go. If you can use lead, I recommend 4's but will use 5's in early season. Black Cloud and it's lead twin Prairie Storm work great, but because of the Flite Stopper wad they shoot very tight (I suspect steel BC not so much as lead PS)...

    Prairie Storm Issue

Would like to give them a try but we don't see them on the shelf out here in SW ND. I was at Scheels in Bismarck last week, there were only 5 boxes of 12 gauge B&P nestled in the shelves full of Fiocchi, Kent, and Federal. They were on sale as well, so I took that to mean Scheels might not be...

    Prairie Storm Issue

I'm a big fan of the orange & black box Federal Premium Upland, they've been my 12 gauge go-to upland load for many years. I have quite a few boxes of that load in 12 gauge 1-1/4 oz 4's on hand. I believe their Premium Upland now is the same load in a fancier box. For certain they pattern &...

    Can I have all three?

I live about 20 miles SE of Dix (Dickinson) and do most of my hunting around my place. I've yet to see a rattlesnake in the area. Down here you really don't get into snakes until around Amidon, then west into the Grasslands and Badlands. Even at that, you likely will never run across one...

    Prairie Storm Issue

Fiocchi Golden Pheasant turned in the best overall performance followed closely by Federal Premium Upland. Toni's Franchi like them, and also shot the Dakota Country 1 oz 5's very well (Federal standard velocity game load they put in a fancy box for Runnings in 12 & 20. I bought a bunch of...

    Prairie Storm Issue

Last week I was pattern testing my new Orion 20 gauge with various loads & chokes and had a Prairie Storm 1 ounce 5's wad hit the board at 30 yards. I found a clump of pellets stuck in the bottom of the shot cup. I blew it off as an anomaly, until it happened again this afternoon. This time...

    Early Spring Observations

Haven't seen a hopper SW of Dix. And I do mean not a one... Pheasant hatch down here is good, seeing lots of hens with chicks driving to/from town. Plenty of roosters too. Never a lot of sharps in the area around my place but the hun numbers look good. I think it will be a very good...

    Father's Day Gift

Toni surprised me with a nice Father's Day gift this year, a Weatherby Orion 20 gauge. I haven't owned a 20 gauge since the 70's. This lightweight shotgun will be a welcome addition to my upland hunting line up. I'm still patterning it with various loads and chokes to see what it likes best...

    Early Spring Observations

I live SW of Dickinson. We've gotten some severe storms with hail and heavy rain fall the last couple weeks. a few days ago found a dead hen in the yard after one that produced golf ball sized hail, I believe she was trying to get to my trees for cover and didn't make it. My labs got some...

    Food plot failure

My plot got hit pretty good by various birds this year, not much can be done about that. This year I put effort intp killing every ground squirrel that showed up around it. No messing around with he 22 or .17, I used 12 gauge and trap loads, one shot per customer. Took a few weeks and I was...
