Definitely a relatively mild winter so far. I would have liked to see more inches of snow in some areas before this cold snap, but at least the cold snaps have been shorter so far. North-central looks like it got 5-6 inches, which should provide some protection from the cold.

I have a couple Sylmar vests too. They have held up well and I like that it has adjustable straps on the back. They don't protect the legs (which was what the original poster was looking for), but do seem to have good protection elsewhere.

I don't live in SD or even in pheasant territory in MN. But I have to drive less to get to those areas than a lot of people. Living in less populated areas isn't for everyone, but the people sure seem nice in the Dakotas. That is, if you aren't a rooster pheasant!

I guess being within driving distance of wild pheasant hunting is kind of like being a lottery winner. :)
