What are you doing to get ready for the upcoming season?

The Dog: I work Phin almost every day with play/training exercises. Dummys, multiple dummy directed retrieves, blind and water retrieves and hiking around the area. With about 4 weeks to go it’s time to get serious. I always have a few whole Pheasants in the freezer. I hide them in the...

Birdman, Good luck to you as well. Safe travels. At my age I don't know how many more of these trips in me but as long as I can I will :)

    Gas Prices

Birdman, I hear you! Last year I stayed in a cabin that was not that great. Drove miles every day but generally was stuck in an area. Swore this year would be different, hence the RV. There are a lot of little Town RV and State Parks scattered around SD so If one area doesn't work I can...

5s, 4s and when I run out, 6's. IC in the top and Modified in the bottom.

I'll be pulling my trailer to SD this year. It's probably going to be the most expensive part of my trip.

    Boondocking

Here's my Boondockingmobile. Starting to look for campgrounds in the areas I'm planning to hunt. Full hookups would be ideal, electricity good, but I can get by fine without for about 5 days at a time.

What are you doing to get ready for the upcoming season?

I have about 30,000 on my KO2s including 5 or 6 k pulling my travel trailer. Lots of miles on dirt and gravel and they are holding up well. I don't really notice a lot of highway noise. Would buy them again or maybe Falken WildPeaks which I've also had good luck with.

    More pheasants than ever before!!

I haven't had the experience of a "organized" hunt and frankly, the idea of one is a turn off. I usually hunt solo and maybe with one other person when I find one. Probably rearrange the birds in the field more than flush them but that's hunting, eh?

What are you doing to get ready for the upcoming season?

Same here in SW Utah. It's been really hot so a early morning walk then about 7 PM we turn on the front yard sprinklers and do some dummy work or just play with a Frisbee. I swear he can tell time 'cause he starts hanging out by the door and staring at us about 15 mintues before 7. He can't...

What are you doing to get ready for the upcoming season?

Another thumbs up for the KO2s. Lots of rocky Forest Service roads, trailer towing and road trips without one problem.

    Shotshell Ammo Prices

I "inherited" 9 boxes of 12 Ga 2-3/4 Winchester Super X steel shot. It's 1550, 1-1/16oz #4 shot. I mostly use lead and don't have much experience with steel so I'll ask, is this a decent load for pheasant when steel is required?

How to get better at wingshooting

I am certainly not an expert wingshooter but here's what I do to try and get better. Practice mounting the shotgun aiming at a point over and over. Repeat sweeping along a fixed line (ceiling/wall junction?). I haven't bought one yet but there are laser pointers that insert into the barrel...

Remy, all I can say is, "WOW!" Sounds like a perfect situation.

What are you doing to get ready for the upcoming season?

Ole_270, Even after 6 years of doing it I swear if sometimes feels like there is no air up there. Birdman, a couple of more feet won't make that much of a difference in maneuverability but will in comfort.
