Opening weekend and Monday, Shocked!!! Kimball, Chamberlain, Platte area.

We hunted some CRP/GPA today but also road hunted some cut corn fields with a lot of brush adjacent. There are birds here for sure.

Opening weekend and Monday, Shocked!!! Kimball, Chamberlain, Platte area.

What I've seeing is that fields that we hunted last year are much harder to hunt this year. The grasses are taller and thicker and exhausting to hunt hard. I'm sure there are birds in it but the dogs ( and me) get tired a lot more quickly having to push their way through it. May spend aome...

    Saw a Pheasant today :)

Hope Goose's nephew, or is it cousin, doesn't come to Mitchell and shoot it.

These 80 year old legs are grateful for even a beaten down animal trail through the weeds. :) But I haven't seen a mowed or bush hogged "road" yet in the areas of SD I'm hunting. "grandpa" Tom

    2024/2025 Pheasant Hunting Videos

I'll have my 11 month old Lab out for the first hunt with his big "brother" next week. Interesting to see your pup in the field with Sage.

    Long Distance Traveling for Birds

Since this is about long distance traveling and I am about to do just that, what's the going rate for diesel out WY & SD way? Thanks, Tom

Is that a JumpingJack trailer? I see them up in the mountains around here during hunting season.

That looks like a good setup. Trailering the RV just didn't cut it, eh? You going to SD this year?

Getting older and I am starting to notice it.

Remy, at 80 I am still making a game plan for the future. Yeah, that gun gets heavier and the fields seem to get bigger each year but as you said, the ride goes fast so embrace it and make the most of it. Besides, what else would we be doing?

I'm with you. Aside from a good Ribeye once in a while I haven't bought beef in a long time.

"Thank you" for access to land?

Triggers memories I'd rather not remember of Boone's Farm.

Wild bird hunting might be cheaper than I thought

Totally agree. I know what it costs but don't care. Looking forward to seeing how the new pup does.

"Thank you" for access to land?

In another post A5 Sweet 16 made the comment, "How many times have we heard a 6-pack shows adequate appreciation for an afternoon of hunting?" I've only hunted public so far but if I did approach a farm and was given permission what would be a adequate "thank you" for that first time contact...

    Long Distance Traveling for Birds

The dog and I stayed in my RV for 10 days last year in a SD town CG. Cost $20/night for a full hook up. Most of the time I was the only one there, the townsfolk were friendly and it felt safe. Cooking my own meals and having peace and quiet at night was good. ( Except for that 100 car long...

Why do I spend $$ on chew toys?

When Phin, our chocolate, was a pup he found a log piece on one of our mountain hikes. The thing was almost a big as him, but it was his, and he tried to carry it around the rest of the day. We brought it home and it quickly became his go to when he was outside. To this day, at 3 years old...
