just a thought to bring upland birds to the public

Ozark, good luck trying to gain support. i never seem to get any backing for my ideas thru the local qf. all i have ever asked for is that the MDC do their own scientific studies on quail, not rely on, or cite studies from other states. my ideas were all life cycle, breeding, nesting...

just a thought to bring upland birds to the public

a stroke? maybe thats what is wrong with me. i think its more frustration that we used to have great quail populations, now their gone, and i just don't see any urgency in trying to bring them back. how silly of me to be passionate about something so unimportant in the grand scheme of things.

just a thought to bring upland birds to the public

i also have followed the RPQR for years. they believe rain makes habitat, which make quail. that doesn't work in missouri. they believe eye worms are a major problem that is fixable. MDC does not. they believe transplanting/restocking quail works. MDC does not. MDC did do their own capture...

just a thought to bring upland birds to the public

about 8 years ago, i heard that if you want MDC (missouri dept. of conservation), and other government agencies to make changes, then go to the CFM (conservation federation of missouri) annual meeting in jefferson city, and sit in on the "upland resource committee". after you learn how it...

    Missouri Hunter

welcome to the forum, lots of opinions and some good info here. look up west central QF, even though we haven't met since covid. this chapter has installed more acres of habitat in the last 25 years than any other county in the USA, and the MDC roadside quail survey still shows us as zero...

    Thoughts on 2021 in Missouri

my dog is in my chair completely tuckered out, his eyes took a beating. he gave it everything today. If a QEA doesn't attract or maintain a huntable population of quail over a reasonable amount of time, does it mean that habitat is not the main issue in this particular area?

    Thoughts on 2021 in Missouri

A Quail Emphasis Area is a plot of land maintained to attract and hold quail. CRP, overgrown with quail cover (thorns), food plots, crops. they look great, but are near impenetrable until mid season, when they do different forms of disturbance, that open it up, making it huntable. on the west...

    Thoughts on 2021 in Missouri

Quiet, because there's nothing to talk about on west central side. We have to drive a minimum of one hour to find quail, and two hours to find pheasant. It's a sorry situation when hearing one quail whistle in the spring is the highlight of your year. We lost most of our quail in 1994 after...

Garmin 550 Plus and Mini collar

update. i bought the new wiring harnesses that i had busted. next, tried to do the new update. the transmitter wouldn't register. found out you are not supposed to use the charging splitter cable for downloads. got both transmitter and tt mini to update on garmin express. took the collar...

    Neonictinoids in the news

no bugs, no chicks, no birds. i understand why its slow to come out that insecticides are ruining our ecosystem at an alarming rate. i wish PF and QF would man up and take on this topic.

    Interesting Quail Study

I start getting riled this time a year. Why isn't there a huntable population of quail near me in west central Missouri. It was great until 1994, it crashed thru the 90's, and by 2000 it was gone. It's an event to see or hear a quail around here. what happened, did our great habitat turn...

Garmin 550 Plus and Mini collar

Tuesday, open field kansas, transmitter un paired 4 times in one field. Had called garmin previous week, not much help. Called LCS where i purchased the collar. apparently there is a tracking and pairing glitch, need to download an updated garmin express app into transmitter and collar...

Garmin 550 Plus and Mini collar

I'm having trouble with my month old collar. seems like it takes a long time to sync transmitter to collar to start the hunt. I lay both on top of the truck. What is normal? Seems like every hunt the transmitter loses sync to the collar, sometimes more than once, hunting in open field crp...

Cut tongue to massive pulmonary hemorrhage

Correction, what i called a trach tube, is more likely a breathing tube inserted thru the throat after some sedation. Several hours of internet searching, and i'm not finding anything close to this situation, or any likely reason why.

Cut tongue to massive pulmonary hemorrhage

i took my little buddy (avatar) out for a short hunt Friday he's now 2 1/2. Got a 3/4 inch cut on top of his tongue in some bluestem. It was worse, and bleeding worse than i've witnessed before. got him to my vet of 25years within 40 minutes, calm, but still dripping blood, no coughing or...

    Good read

Thanks for sharing this article. The MDC called this the SouthWest Study (Missouri), and it was originally planned to study quail nesting/brooding success in traditional row crop habitat vs warm season grass (CRP) Several eye opening observations came out over the 5 years. Mating/nesting...
