At what age you cut down dogs?

I always try to have two dogs of hunting age at all times. Often own three dogs (puppy, retired dog, etc). I rarely hunt the two dogs together. One dog with one, two or maybe on occasion three hunters is all that is really needed. I like to rotate dogs because it keeps them fresh.

    Aberdeen area

The further you get out of Aberdeen (or any other larger town) the more likely you are able to find a true motel where you park your truck in front of your room. When I was younger we loved to be able to do this. Couple lawn chairs, cold brew, and the barbeque cooking the wild game to...

    Lots of hunters

Nothing kills an unnamed Dakota (ND or SD) prairie lake (once a pothole now a fishery) than word of mouth ... I suppose especially those that just have to share where they caught all those perch or 'eyes. Forums usually moderate, edit, and/or refrain from actual locations ... but not FB...

    Corner crossings

The WY Federal land checkerboard was a "cluster" from the beginning. It should not have been set up that way. The only real answer on access is EASEMENTS. If you purchase any private land that is not bound by a road, legal public section line, etc... you better have an easement onto...

    Corner crossings

The vast majority of “checker board” public land in WY is Federal land.

    Corner crossings

Each state has its own laws and regulations. Like I said above. Go for it get a ticket and go to court. The WY case should be a great precedent for your attorney

    Corner crossings

I believe corner crossing is generally illegal in most states. In Minnesota I would bet if a landowner called you in you would likely get a ticket. You then hire a good attorney and proceed down the same path as Wyoming case with precedence on your side. The Wyoming case may have went...

    Game warden question

It appears that MS enacted a new law that said everyone in the field (turkey hunters anyways) needs to be licensed.

Late season Hazards for the Birds

Man's car and truck are the top rooster killer this time of year.

    Waterproof Upland Pants?

Can't imaging hunting pheasants with two pairs of pants on. Jeans most of the season. If the grass is damp, I wear Cabela's goretex pants or hunts early spots with shorter grass. Those pants are usually replaced with jeans by 11 or noon. Knee high rubber boots removes the need for...

    Pheasants - Cold?

I know this is a pheasant site, but think of turkeys roosting in trees on an extreme cold night. They have mass, but no feathers on their legs like grouse or feathers on their heads like most other birds.

    Pheasants - Cold?

Sorghum is a great pheasant cover / food source. Rows of corn are good when the snow depth (wind blown drifts) start to cover the sorghum grain tops. I wish the MN DNR and local wildlife clubs that plant food sources on or near WMAs would use a mix of sorghum and corn.

    Pheasants - Cold?

Pheasants in ND have survived colder weather and more extended periods of cold weather than this. If the cattail sloughs are not filled with snow then the pheasants should have no issue. SW ND does not have the density of cattail sloughs, but they have more river and creek bottoms that provide...

    Indian Reservation Hunting

Every native reservation is different in their approach to interactions with "outside" people, the state, the federal government, trespass, hunting and fishing ... Many reservations are not a continuous unit but a patchwork of blocks of reservation land, private land, and possible government...
