    Steel/bismuth for pheasants

Is it wrong that I already have a list started with the properties we are going to hunt each day next year?

    Overall season bird numbers

hunted some new areas but out of our 15 days of hunting probably 11-12 were on ground we have hunted the previous years. In a roughly 30 mile east to west and 100 miles north to south I would say numbers were up 20-30%. There was one area that the landowner said were down and our boots on the...

    Browning 20ga A5

I love how these threads get sideways sometimes. I have transitioned to only hunting with O/U’s strictly by choice. I don’t think any less about anyone shooting a semi auto with an extended magazine that loads 9 in their gun. To each their own. There are times every year I wish I had a third and...

    Current conditions 1/22/24

I appreciate the updates but felllike you are rubbing to it in! 🤣🤣. Seriously, good luck these last two days.

    Land prices.

All great points but when looking at any timeline of 10 or more years I think you would be hard pressed to find a period when land didn’t appreciate. It doesn’t appear the increasing interest rates have slowed land price increases much and definitely have not had them go lower. Small snap shot...

    Custom lanyard

Starting making some lanyards for friends last winter for something to do. Decided to offer them here for sale. Lots of options and each one will be made to what you want. Here are some pics of a couple I’ve done. PM me and we can talk details and pricing. Basic with no slide, counter or...

    Broken femur?

Incredible what they can do for sure. Hopefully all heals as expected. Buddy of mine is a surgeon and sent me some pics from last week on a leg break he did. Hard to believe sometimes.

    Length of pull

I’m a 14.5” guy. Typically don’t see the extreme temps when we are out there that I need to shorten up LOP do to clothes. If I was going to hunt this week I would likely grab one of my auto loaders that are a little shorter to help with that.

    My 2023 season stats

Great report. Enjoyed reading it. I have done a terrible job of keeping track of hunts and details overall. I did buy me a nice leather bound journal with a great pheasant engraving on it that I am committing to writing in next year after every wild bird hunt. Not so much for keeping track of...

Insulated SS vs covered plastic dog kennel temperature comparison? Warmer...Cooler?

Small hook in the ceiling and we hang the sensor from that. Works good. Mine is an Upland brand that I don’t believe is in business any longer. Heavy SOB for sure. Here is a side picture of it.

Insulated SS vs covered plastic dog kennel temperature comparison? Warmer...Cooler?

Not comparison but we use a 3 hole insulated box with a storage compartment on top. Side vents for the two outside compartment and a front vent for the middle one. Have rubber mats on the floor 3/4” thick. Doors have two different slides so have three options for how open it is. Use straw then...

    Ammo prices

Great point. I find that April through June is usually when I find my best ammo deals on hunting shells. Always got my eyes open and watching.

Upland strap vest you can load birds in

I use an Orvis and easy to put birds in. When guiding I use a browning vest that can handle 10-12 pheasants in the bag if needed. Also easy to put birds in.

    On X question

It not as fun. 🤩. Use the screen on my truck also. Moving screen not super easy but still nice to have there.

    Cell Service Provider?

Verizon every place in SD we have hunted. MT it was spotty to nothing in places. But not sure if other options would have been better??

    Shed hunting

Correct, Ohio. Blessed to get to manage quite a bit of land for deer hunting and access to additional acreage for shed hunting. Plus next to birds this is a very close second place for my favorite activity so I spend a lot of time walking come spring.

    Shed hunting

Both my springers shed hunt with us in the spring. Their production varies from year to year but sometime they find a dozen or more between them. These would be mostly scent based finds in n CRP cover. I am usually still guiding at the hunt club and hen and they go back and forth between sheds...
