    How fast conditions change.

Thanks guys. That farm is my happy place. With amount of rain we have received, the cover is even thicker & taller than normal. The gator had a time pushing through in places as I drove thru to check on the food plots. I flushed just one hen yesterday, goes to show they would rather run than...

    How fast conditions change.

Here are pics I took today of some of the food plots. One plot has a bit of the first planting of corn. The 2-4D took care of the broadleafs, but bunches of foxtail. Not a super stand of sorghum, some places better that others.

what areas do you look for on the map when deciding to hunt upland birds

Not sure about maps, but do some reading and figure out an area with potential. You want to find private ground opportunities, to avoid those all day hunts where fellas walk all day to try to get a limit. Spend a day or weekend in the area you want to hunt and meet some of the locals. Stop in...

    How fast conditions change.

This is such a turn around, the from the last 4 years, another 1.85" last night. I might have to wear those rubber Muck boots hunting.

It's coming! I hope to get in my plots this week. I try to stay out after spraying and let thing happen.

    How fast conditions change.

Another almost .5" Friday and Sat morning. All this rain is not the normal over the past 5 years. I watered the garden twice early on in a dry 3 week period. Since then, the top is usually moist. The sweet corn did good, gave away the last 12 dozen or so ears this morning.

Pheasant Fact Friday - PF FB Repost

I didn't know the value of foxtail until I read this, my food plots might be more productive than I imagined!

    How fast conditions change.

Just got 1.1" and it is still coming. I am thinking our pheasants will evolve into ducks if this keeps coming! ***Edit. 1.3" last evening, this is crazy. Should be dry tonight, need to get mowing grass!

    SE Iowa

I think most, if not all the state, has received adequate rain this year, so the IHAP (public access CRP) should be good this year. With the recent drought conditions much of this has been hayed in past years.

If you build it, they will come! I bet those firebreaks will be a great stopper to push the birds to.

    How fast conditions change.

2.9" of rain again last night, the wind blew, not sure if that was bad or not at this point. Sunday night's wind blew my sweet corn patch down. I see Plymouth County has 470 customers without power, so the winds must have been substantial. The rain this year is crazy compared to the last...

    How fast conditions change.

I see this coming, we'll see if it stays together and drops down on us. Looks like we will be finding out what this one has in it. The blue dot is basically me. EDIT: Got lucky, the big winds (into the 90s mph), stayed north 60 miles or so north of us. .1" of rain...they say more will be...

    How fast conditions change.

Another .8" of rain last night, heat index of 105* coming today. Last few days have been really hot and humid. Sounds like storms are likely tonight. These chicks that make it, will be tough birds!

    How fast conditions change.

I would not be surprised to find in my harvest, some of this year's hatch with webbed feet....another 1.8" in the gauge from last night. I would guess we have had twice the rain as last year and a much this year as the 3 years prior to last year combined. The crops will likely be incredible and...

Cooking Own Meals at the Motel

I don't travel to bird hunt, but when traveling to shoot prairie dawgs, I cook breakfast and diner at the motel. You can find Coleman suitcase stoves for little to nothing on FB MP or at swap meets. *that just happens to be my pheasant breakfast sausage

    Knee Surgery Question

I messed my knee-up about 10-days ago. Never went to the Dr., but for a few days walking was an issue. It has been getting better that last couple days, still no extra walking and up and down stairs are a slow affair. I have been hoping I am healed-up well befor the opener. The one that I am...
