    Loosing birds

That's the thing. If a guy was harvesting 200 birds then losing 18 would seem reasonable. You can't tell me you really think goose is putting 200 birds in the bag per season.

    Future of CRP ?

I forgot about the lottery funding. Good call. We also have the mandatory buffer strips now too, even though they are not open to public hunting. One can't argue against how much habitat that has added for various forms of wildlife though, and improved water quality. If Iowa did something...

    Loosing birds

So many people have offered advice on this subject and he continues to refuse it even when the problem gets worse. There's only so many variables here and they've all been questioned already multiple times. Its like trying to beat a dead horse now.

    Future of CRP ?

I'm not sure about Iowa, but in Minnesota, part of our license sales go to the acquisition of public land for use by the public. So the simple act of buying a hunting license goes to that cause.

    Loosing birds

That's exactly what I was thinking too. Less than 10%. My guess is that its not even remotely close to that though.

    Loosing birds

I get it, ammo is expesnive. I still think a better combination of shotgun, choke, and ammo would increase your kill percentage and reduce cripples. I don't know how good your dog is at tracking. I've lost 1 rooster the past 3 seasons combined, and none this past season. Obviously the breed...

    Loosing birds

Better combination of ammo and choke in your shotgun. Stop using that cheap crap with a full choke. And make better shots. That part is easier said than done.

    Your "Go-To" gun and why?

Mine was black synthetic and it costed me $225 way back in 1998.

Would like your insight on a purchase for pheasant hunting

Good data Kre. The problem with wearing blaze orange for turkey or waterfowl, is that they see color and the hunt is designed to draw them in close enough. The hunt would end before it even started in those situations. They make exceptions to blaze orange here in MN for those two exact...

Would like your insight on a purchase for pheasant hunting

I actually looked into that too and I was fairly shocked to read that. Lots of grouse hunters in northern WI. I would never not be wearing a piece of blaze orange in the woods there.

    Your "Go-To" gun and why?

I had one in synthetic when I first started hunting at age 16. Its all I could afford on a part time job as a teenager. I had that shotgun for 10 years before I was able to afford the Benelli. The difference is like night and day. The 870 was reliable but it was very heavy. And it had a lot...

What produces recoil? Velocity or payload?

I'm not a ballistics engineeer but I will say that shotgun is probably the lightest 12 gauge on the market and less weight tends to add recoil. Its a nice shotgun to carry around but you might not find a good shell that does what you want it to in terms of recoil solely because of the shotgun.

    MN DNR Survey

I received the survey and completed it very similarly to Munster's preferences.

    Your "Go-To" gun and why?

Benelli Montrefelto 12 gauge for roosters. 26 inch barrel. I like the balance, minimal recoil, and weight. Plus its intertia-driven, not gas.

    The truth about Prairie Storm

That's a nice shotgun. Might be one of the lightest ones on the market in a 12 gauge/26 inch barrel. You definitely do not want to be shooting 3 inchers through that thing.

    The truth about Prairie Storm

I haven't used a lot of shotguns in my hunting days. Mostly, because I haven't had to. What I have I like, and they do their job effectively. I tried even just 3 inchers with my Montrefelto and it was nasty. Like bone jarring recoil lol. It felt like someone punched me in the face. Never...

    The truth about Prairie Storm

Have you tried shooting a 3.5 inch load? Its like shooting a cannon. Its awful. And the lighter the shotgun, the worse it is. Most upland hunters use a light weight shotgun too. I use a 3.5 load for turkeys but its just one shot/season (if I'm lucky), with a heavier gun that has a...

    The truth about Prairie Storm

I'd be lying if I said I "never" have done it. I have. Someone has to keep Federal in business. Over time I've just come to realize that the chances of success at that range using an IC choke is very remote though. The vast majority of my shots are closer in range because 1) my dog works...

Iowa wants to buy all the southern-most counties in Minnesota

My understanding here is that both states would have to agree to it, and Congress needs to approve it. Good luck with that. Its like trying to turn the titanic

    The truth about Prairie Storm

I'm in full disagreement with this but you do you. I don't even raise my shotgun if a rooster flushes at 45 yards.
