Solar Farms = Habitat Destruction ?

There was a time that if you told someone we'd be flying 50-100 people across the world in giant metal birds they would have put you in an insane asylum. Never say never. Is the technology perfect right now? No. But it'll continue to advance. And there's a reason in my area, the largest energy...

Solar Farms = Habitat Destruction ?

Same with battery tools. I know a corded tool compared to a gas auger isn't an apples to apples comparison, but the point is technology has advanced and you never find a corded tool now. The point that alot of anti solar folks make is that "it'll take me 15 years before I see any gains". My...

Solar Farms = Habitat Destruction ?

Yeah I've shot pheasants within a couple hundred yards of windmills too. But this particular area in NW MN, I've seen huns right on a fence row that's probably 50-100 yards from the closest windmill and shot chickens probably 100-200 yards away from them. I've never been able to get a good...

Solar Farms = Habitat Destruction ?

I've shot many a prairie chicken with windmills about 200 yards away.

Rattlesnake Avoidance Clinic this Weekend in Hugo, Minnesota.

It's not so much a concern for us hunting here in MN, but a lot of us will go to western states that have them. It's hard to find avoidance classes in this state since there isn't a large population of snakes. I'd bet that class was fairly full considering it's one of the few I've seen held...

Different types of scenting in dogs.

That's a general rule of thumb. Some breeds are more predisposed to using both ground and air scent and I'm sure some individual dogs that come from breeds that use only air scent or ground scent will learn to use both. I know my dogs will use both air and ground scent and different times...

    Final Rise Vest Sale

Yeah I checked shipping costs and apparently it's free shipping too. I already have a vest from them but I considered ordering their Sidekick vest for warm early season hunts and dog training but I'll probably hold off as I can order just the Sidekick belt system and use the strap/yoke from my...

    Final Rise Vest Sale

Noticed online the other day that GoHunt is having a 20% off sale on certain brands and that Final Rise vests are included in the sale. For anyone like me that was keeping their eye on those vests for awhile knows they never seem to go on sale directly through Final Rise. Just wanting to share...

    New Shotgun

I don't own one of these particular guns but I own several autos, I try to make it a yearly winter project to fully strip and clean the guns after a season of use. Then just keep up with normal cleaning and oiling of high impact wear parts throughout the season. Also a tip, learn via forums or...

Another first timer to SD Post

As I've gotten older, I've been graduating down in gun size haha started with a 20 but then used a 12 a long time, then a 16 gauge, now this year I'll be back a 20 gauge as my primary shotgun.

Hell I use 2.75"s and never have an issue. If you check ballistics, alot of times 2.75s will perform better than a 3 inch shell. Usually 2.75s give you more FPS too comparing equivalent shells.

Wild bird hunting might be cheaper than I thought

150 miles west of the Twin Cities puts you around Marshall, which is what some may consider the unofficial "Pheasant Capital of MN" so now I'm just confused where the good areas are 😂

    Sharptails

The Nature Conservancy also does a lot of work up in the NW area for sharpies and chickens. Which is great. Bonus of all that work is the ample extra public hunting land that's not on any MN DNR website. Any Nature Conservancy land up there is open to public hunting IF the land was acquired...

    Sharptails

Plenty of Sharpies in MN. Do some researching and you can find good areas. Attached is a picture after one walk at a spot in MN. Currently planning another trip up there this fall.

    Importance of eCollars?

I look at an e-collar as a tool and nothing more. Can you train a dog without one? Absolutely. The same way that you can whoa train a dog without a training table. Most of my dogs training was done without an e-collar being worn. That said, the reason alot of guys train their dogs with an...

    Truck caps

I toyed around with adding the LEER locker but decided against it. Seemed too much of a pain to pull down all the time.

    Private Hunt

Without completely hot spotting the areas I hunt, I've been hunting between south of Lac qui Parle and Worthington for a long time and have always done well. I hunt purely public land, so I don't have any private land recommendations however. That's a rather large area of course, but I've hunted...
