Training puppies is fun if you want it to be and have the time.

Is this an old or young pheasant?

I've seen double spurs in Illinois. Those cocks should be able to mate with every hen around! Two spurs on each leg to fight off all the other cocks with only one. Not fair, unless the 1 spur has them as long as turkey spurs. Those things will mess you up big time.

    WI Game Farm for sale

They are a neighboring property to a place I have. Always busy and a profitable business. I looked at it but I'm too old needs an owner/operator.

Help me plan a trip to NoDak

Huns for me would be a bonus. I grew up in WI and we had a covey that hung near our mailbox that would scare the beejeezus out of my mom a few times a month. I remember them but have never seen any since. That's over 50 years ago. Wouldn't mind getting a chance but not a deal killer.

Help me plan a trip to NoDak

So let me see if I got this straight. The Hunting Atlas shows the posted, no hunting land but may list the owners contact info (so I could try to see if I could get permission)? The areas of the map that are not red crosshatched are presumably open, but may be posted no trespassing on property...

    Prepping for a controlled burn.

Just do it like my brother from NYC. Toss a match in and go get lunch. Come back to multiple fire departments responding and half the county in danger!

Would like your insight on a purchase for pheasant hunting

You only need to wea orange in WI during gun deer seasons. I'm assuming that means muzzle loader, rifle, and late season special hunts.

Help me plan a trip to NoDak

NoDak hunting areas A question about the link above. Not sure I get the "X" out red/orange properties on the map. Are those private properties that allow hunting? Some have contact info but most that i have looked at do not.

    Bird sightings

Saw 37 pheasants in field across the road from that sign along with 10 deer. Hunted Sunday and ran birds out ahead of me all day. Just me and dog and one "blocker" who mostly sits in the truck watching, which is fine. Had several points on hens and only one cock gave me an opportunity, but a...

Help me plan a trip to NoDak

I would probably plan a mid/late October trip. Areas/towns to focus on would be helpful. Would be me and dog and perhaps another person, but with how I'm thinking of doing it, likely alone.

Help me plan a trip to NoDak

So I have hunted in SoDak for pheasants but I have always also wanted to hunt Huns, sharptails and maybe even prairie chickens or sage grouse. I am going to retire soon and might want to travel from Indiana, maybe with one other person but maybe alone. I was thinking of renting a camper van to...

    2024 Reports

Pheasants closed mid Dec statewide. And where are you looking around I-74? East or West? Not many public areas close to that where there are quail but if you go further south in Western Indiana there are public grounds that have birds.

    Vest suggestions

I don't like the strap vests either for the same reasons - the strap! I use an LL bean hunting vest. I do not think they make it any longer but this one on Ebay looks to be very similar or identical...

    16 gauge

    I'd add a 28ga before a 16ga. it will help your shooting and be a nicer carry. Plus, you'll have a 28ga!
  17. AtTheMurph

    Public area closest to 74

Probably Deer Creek near Greencastle. (assuming you're looking for quail.) Chinook, Goose Pond, Greene Sullivan if you actually want to have a chance to find some.

    Looking for a New O/U

That would be cool. The gun I would want would be north of $8500. I would probably choose a different maker at that price.

    Looking for a New O/U

My vote would be for Beretta. I have a 20ga 686 since the mid-90s and never once have had any issues. Seems bullet proof, comfortable to carry and fits me. If the Beretta fits, it's a good choice. I didn't like the Browning's and others I looked at nearly as much as the Beretta. However, in...
