    Indiana hunting lottery

You need to register for the lottery on the IN DNR website and be chosen. Log onto your DNR account and look for 'Enter a Reserved Hunt Drawing" on the right side of the site. From there follow the prompts. It now costs $1 to enter. And apparently they will now start a point system for people...

Help me plan a trip to NoDak

looking at trying to rent a boat. I've heard about Mallard Island and is one of the reasons we are going to this area. Really hope it happens. Might even try it a couple of days. It's about 8 sq miles.

Help me plan a trip to NoDak

Dates are probably not adjustable due to others. Will have to try to make it work.

Help me plan a trip to NoDak

Right now looking at staying near Cole Harbor on the SE end of Lake Sakakawea. Any personal insight on that general area as a base camp to travel probably within 1.5hr one way? WMA, PLOTS, etc.

I have hunted the pheasant properties 4 or 5 times but never the private land ones.

    Pointers in Cold Country

If you are worried about weather tolerance, I would be more concerned with warm weather rather than cold. Dogs normal temp is quite a bit higher than humans. They can take the cold, especially when running. The heat is another matter altogether. I'd think about something with short hair and...

    2024 gear review...what worked and what didn't?

I bought a pair of Filson Tin Cloth pants (no finish) from Sierra Trading for $49. LOVE THEM! I could wax them if I wanted but I don't want to, at least not yet. Nothing gets through them and not being waxed they are much more flexible.

RE: How do you get your dogs in shape, does walking behind a truck or 4 wheeler cause problems?

Not sure where you are but I'm in the burbs. So not many areas close to let dog run free. I back up to a city park with 17 acres of woods that I go into at night and put dog's GPS collar on with lights blazing. He likes that and will run several miles. But the other thing I do, is I will drive...

    Getting ready for the season

I'm old enough, and have enough room in the house for my gear that I know where everything is, because it all has it's own place. But I hunt mostly locally. Going to be taking a trip to ND or SD or both this fall. Will need to expand the things I take for both me and dog.

How many of you let birds go?

I let lots of birds go. Not old or young but simply because i might have a full freezer, don't particularly want to shoot any or it might be an iffy shot and don't want bird going down in some hard to find in stuff. I'm more about the dog work.

Let’s talk boots (older crowd on here)

Life is too short. I wear Russell Moccasin South 40 Bird Shooter. have to be at least 15 years old (probably close to 20) and still look new-ish. Changed soles once because I made a mistake up front. Needed more traction rather than less mud pickup. Love them...

    Most Satisfying Shot

Mine was with the dog in the pic in my profile. His last hunt, age 14. He never liked hunting in groups, freaked him out. Great pheasant dog but usually with only me. This day there were 3 of us. One older guy who can't walk, so he blocks and picks us up in the field. The other was the farm...

Lets See Your Dogs..post some pic's

Was out the other day and dog goes on point. Figured it was a lone quail or meadowlark. Then he started acting oddly. Jumped back and yelped. Tough to get scale with my crappy picture but was a 5ft long black rat snake. Then 20 min later he found another! They act tough.

    ND Fed Warden Jobs

As I said, the money in teaching (and other gov jobs) is in the benefits. $65k isn't a great salary, but when you retire with $650k and a pension that pays $40k/yr. It exceeds jobs that pay 2x as much.

    ND Fed Warden Jobs

The benefits are so out of whack that it's stupid. Gov EEs get a deal that no one even thinks about. Take for example a mid-level teacher in my vey mid-western suburb. That teacher gets paid 65K/yr in pay. And gets another $40k per year in benefits and can retire with a fabulous pension before...
