    Hearing Protection

I bought a set of Tetra hunting/shooting electronic plugs. i think they work similar to the walkers, but they are lower profile. I bought the multi-pursuit so with a push of the button they are supposed to isolate and adjust for the noises that it amplifies. I only used them for coyote hunting...

    Hunting Barr Lake

Anyone ever hunt doves or waterfowl at Barr Lake? Looking for a place to dove hunt that’s not super far from the Eastern metro area.

    What size shot???

4s or 2s are what I’ve used depending on time of year/pressure.

    What size shot???

IMO, 6s are the lowest I’d go with for a quail/pheasant mixed bag. Early season 7.5s would be alright, as long as you have a good pattern and you can keep your flusher in relatively good range. Later season I’ll run 5s on wary, tough pheasants that will run at flush at a distance. Of course...

    fake pheasant

I think the dokken dummies are a good replacement for bumpers to keep your pup from shaking during the retriever. However, for pointing work and finishing retrieving training or wounded critter training, nothing beats real birds. Even just pigeons.

    fake pheasant

Be careful with tennis balls or any other perfectly round ball. Ive seen dogs develop hard mouths due to being able to roll the ball in their mouths. I use them as a last resort.

    Dog Vest or No Vest?

I’ve heard multiple people address the chafing and debris collection. Everyone whom I’ve seen address those 2 issues say to try to loosen the vest a little. Reduces chafing and allows seeds, sticks, rocks to slide through. Makes sense, although I haven’t tried it yet.

    New O/U

Planning to buy a new field gun for the season. I wanted to get any advice anyone might have. Looking to spend up to $1500. Right now I’m thinking about the Franchi Instinct L, the Weatherby Orion 1, and the Winchester 101. Any other suggestions? I haven’t tried any yet, but these all seem to be...

    Ideas from trainers

I'm looking at getting out of my chosen profession and starting a new one. I'd love to get started as a pointer and retriever trainer, but it's a daunting task to say the least. What I've considered is getting my own dog, which is one major reason for the career change, and getting him AKC and...

    Training grounds

I'm looking for some training grounds not too far from the Denver metro area. I'll be getting my first pointer in the not-so-distant future and once it's trained I'll be shooting for AKC hunting titles and then to start my own training buisness. I'd be willing to pay a fee for the use of the...
