What's the Consensus of Pheasant Hunters

Just got back from our annual SD trip hunting all public land and me and the 2 other guys I was with had no issues shooting birds with our 28GA's and boss #5's out of MOD or LMOD chokes out to 40yds. Like others have said the higher the gauge 20/28/.410 your shooting is going to have to be a...

Final Rise, Chief Upland, Marsupial, Q5

I have a Final Rise that I bought at Pheasant Fest last year in Omaha. Absolutely love it, I also have a wings works that it replaced which still looks new after 10 years but I wanted to try something new. I love the added pockets on the Final Rise and I also ordered mine with the shell pockets...

Beretta 686 Silver Pigeon 20GA ****SOLD****

I actually sold my A400 12ga to a friend last year as I never used it. I have moved to shooting strictly 20 & 28ga's, love the light weight and recoil.

Beretta 686 Silver Pigeon 20GA ****SOLD****

Looking to sell my Beretta 686 silver pigeon 20ga with 28" barrels. Gun has had 10 rounds through it and looks brand new. I bought it 2 years ago thinking I would use it and well sorry to say it just collects dust as I really enjoy shooting my A400 28ga. My loss is someone's gain as I will let...

    2022 Season

I was out in SD for our first trip a couple weeks ago, first day my lab got sprayed by a skunk and decided to fight with a barbed wire fence and lost. She put a nice gash in her upper back leg, no blood just a big gash. I put EMT gel on it every morning and night, took her in for stitches when I...

    Couldn't Resist!

Yea they don't exactly give them away, but that seems to be the case with any new gun especially Browning/Benelli & Beretta

    Couldn't Resist!

Boss has had them for a while probably the last 2 years or so. Not sure about other shell companies. As far as beretta this is their first 3" 28ga. Benelli has had one out for a while in the ethos.

    Couldn't Resist!

Will do, only difference in this new gun and my other 28ga A400 is the 3" chamber and the nickel receiver. I'm glad they finally came out a 3" so now I can shoot 3" bismuth #5's at 1 1/16 ounce loads. Can't wait!!

    Couldn't Resist!

Well on our way back from SD this past weekend we stopped at Scheels in Sioux Falls and low and behold they had the new Beretta A400 28ga Upland Magnum, well after about 2 minutes of holding it and pondering I pulled the trigger. It'll go nicely with my other A400 28ga and A400 20ga. Best part...

    “Weather” or not?

We ended up not camping and staying in a different part of the state more south in a house that we have access to. Our group did ok, 4 guys 4 labs, 1 of the guys came up from florida after moving last year so he & his dog haven't hunted in 2 years and it showed. It was extremely dry so the dogs...

    “Weather” or not?

I don't mind hunting after snow or even in a snow storm, but 10-14 inches and 30+ mph winds is a bit much. If this trip hadn't been in the works for months and time taken off of work and a guy driving up from florida we would probably move it a week. But it's not anything we haven't hunted in...

    “Weather” or not?

Our group will be heading out tuesday morning and looking at the forecast they are basically calling for a blizzard starting wednesday night all the way till friday morning, 25-35mph winds and 8-10 inches of snow. should keep tent camping interesting for us, gotta love hunting after the first snow!

    Opener

went out for opener this weekend, had a group of 5 on one piece of public and another group of 2 across the road on a different piece. All told, 7 man limit by 9:30 with numerous misses by a couple of guys. A friend of mine and myself walked an edge with cut beans next to it. I should have been...

    Emergency Haying 2022

Was out a couple weeks ago in the SE part of the state and there was a lot of haying that took place the first part of August. From what we found on the USDA site the county needs to be in D2 or worse to be able to be hayed. With that being said I am not holding my breath that the rest of the...

    2022 Road side counts

Well luckily I wasn't doing any training I was just out for a walk, so I would say that is a extremely gray area. I looked up the federal site for WPA's and they are very specific on refuges and training but nothing really in regards to a normal WPA. Either way I have walked this spot for years...

    2022 Road side counts

Did a scouting trip saturday morning to the area we hunt for opener and we were shocked at the numbers we saw. Every spot we scouted we saw numerous birds and broods on the roads, needless to say we are pretty pumped for opening day. I even took a walk with the dogs this morning about 20 mins...

    Camping for upland hunting

You could easily full time in it, we use the back garage area as our girls bedroom. They have there own space and their own bathroom too. I just got my new tent yesterday, ordered the Gazelle T4 hub tent and I can honestly say I am impressed with how nice it is. Sets up in 90 seconds and comes...

    Camping for upland hunting

Here is our setup which is obviously a little large for hunting, so it stays at home. Plus a dually is a little tricky on minimum maintenance roads!

    Camping for upland hunting

It appears on top of our normal pheasant camp for MN opener this year we will be tent camping for our annual SD trip. This will be a similar camp to MN with tents and just electrical so we will have to bring water and all the other things needed. We do this trip in the middle of November so a...

    Camping for upland hunting

I have camped numerous times for hunting, we usually tent camp/bird camp for MN opener with a couple of us that all set up tents at a farm in SW MN and do it the that way. I have also camped numerous times in SD at a state park in our campers. And last year myself and a buddy slept in our trucks...
