What’s everyone using for non toxic shell’s? For pheasants

Boss for my 20 & 28's, shoot 3" #5's out of my 20 and I shoot 3" #5's out of one of my 28's and 2 3/4 #4's out of the other. All the guns are Beretta A400's, I shoot IC early season and switch to LM or M for the remainder of the season usually around the middle of november.

    2024 opener

This will be my 30th year hunting SD, started when I was 13 going with my dad and uncle. My dad passed 11 years ago and I will always carry on the tradition of SD trips, now I go with a couple good friends that share the same passion for upland hunting as I do.

    MN report

Went out this weekend, ended up with a 5 man limit on public ground by 11am on Saturday. Sunday I had my 2 by 10:30 and the rest the group came up a couple short by 1pm. Overall we saw a ton of birds, probably around the same amount of hunters as years past. Looking to be a good season, could...

    28 guage

Lead is still heavier that bismuth. Choke also plays a big role in it, I shoot IC till about mid Nov maybe 1st of December and then switch to a MOD for the rest of the season. If your shooting is good and your on the bird a 28 is plenty of gun doesn't matter if your shooting lead or bismuth.

    28 guage

I don't understand why everyone seems to think that a 28 is too small of a gauge to take wild pheasants? They don't lack power; they pack the same amount of power as a 12/16/20 gauge! A bird doesn't know the difference between shot coming out of a 12 or 28 traveling at 1350 fps. People just...

    Retirement gift for me!

Upland gun company is a relatively new company to the custom gun market but price point and what you get they are hard to beat. I would highly recommend attending Pheasant Fest as they have a booth there with numerous guns and fitment experts there that can talk you through everything! My buddy...

    Saturday is opener

I'll be out all weekend with a couple of buddies hunting some public, we will get to our spot early saturday morning and pray that we don't have the typical 8:55 group show up. Happens every year, all you can do is put some trucks on it in strategic spots and pray they keep driving. We do the...

Benelli Montefeltro 12 Gauge 26 Inch Barrel

You are correct on the new timeline for the 20's. Buddy, I hunt with works for Browning and said the timeline for the gun's delivery is getting pushed back weekly due to parts and manufacturing. One of my good friends that I hunt with has had an order in for one from 5 different places around...

    Section line roads.

I have hunted and driven 1000's of section lines in the 30 years I have hunted in SD. Some of the roads are no worse than a typical minimum maintenance road and some you would have to be a nutcase to go down. Some of the best hunting and bird numbers I have ever seen in SD were on these roads or...

    Mitchell north

If it was easy, especially late in the season everyone would do it! That's what makes it fun, shooting a limit is great but actually having to work for your birds and spending more than 30 mins in a field is what I call fun.

    These video guys

I'm confused? So, you have a problem with guys posting hunting videos on YouTube? If that's the case we might as well have all hunting tv shows and related shut down. Every TV show and you tube video does the same thing, it highlights the highs and lows of hunting. It doesn't matter what species...

    Hunting during deer season

We are still a little up in the air but it's looking like NC or NW part of the state. We are going to be staying in our trucks so we will be mobile and able to move daily if needed.

    Hunting during deer season

So would you say that by the Wednesday after opener the pressure has died down? I know the weekends are going to be more hectic but if we can get in 3 days of hunting without dealing with the pressure that would make for a far more enjoyable trip. Just curious because MN and IA deer openers I...

    Hunting during deer season

Question for some of you locals and even out of state hunters that hunt ND regularly. What is the pressure like during deer season as far as deer hunters go? I've been hunting SD for almost 30 years and this year we are thinking of trying our luck in ND during our regular early SD trip due to...

    Final Rise Vest Sale

I've got one that I have had for 2 seasons now. Purchased after seeing one in person and talking to the owner of the company at pheasant fest, he and his wife are great people that truly care about upland hunting and dogs! I never thought I would stop using my wings works but after two seasons...

    Why I love labs

I grew up with nothing but labs in our house as my dad trained semiprofessionally and then just turned to hunting. I'm now on my 3rd lab of my own and I honestly don't think I will ever own anything but a lab. Growing up with them and having them in my life for over 40 years. They are truly a...
