If you had to pick one breed of dog to hunt everything with feathers, which one do you think would do the best overall job? Say your challenge was to bag every species of upland bird and waterfowl in the USA, just you and one dog. What breed of dog do you think could handle them all with the...
Check out the birthday gift I got from my wife! I thought you all would appreciate it. She commissioned a local glass artist to make it for me.
The only logical thing to do now, is commission him to do another one of my dogs on point! And, also start thinking about what to do for...
Getting to be that time of year again, algae season... Don't forget to be careful where you are letting your dogs cool off. Dogs just love a scummy mud hole for recreation, but please remember be careful this time of year.;)

Looks like Summer snake season has started again in the backyard. It's such a small fenced in area, relatively speaking, for the number of copperheads that seem to want to hang out there.
Copperhead #1 has been added to the 2013 bag... Looks like it is time to start locking the dogs in the...
Three of my best friends and I are taking our kids camping in about a week. Just dads and kids... We're just going to try an overnight to see how they like it (and how we like it  ). It'll be six kids, ages 5-8.
Question for those that have gone before me... What are some good camping...
Recently I got a .410 SxS shotgun and a small reloader as part of the trade for my old fishing boat.
I have never reloaded any ammo before, for rifle, shotgun, or anything... Just wondering what is the best way to learn, or how did you guys learn? I think the reloader is specifically for .410...
Anybody finding any shrooms? I've done a little walking on ground that looks pretty good, but haven't found any yet. Sunday's expedition at the farm was cut short when I discovered that somebody had broken into my shed and stolen some items.
But walking around the place, I pulled SD...
Older but well cared for 15 1/2' semi-V fishing boat for sale. 15 HP Johnson motor, starts easy & runs great. Foot control trolling motor. Good trailer.
Doing my Spring maintenance on the motor and trailer this weekend, and it will be available immediately after that.
This boat was my...
Seems like a good time to get a Spring turkey thread going.:D Feel free to post reports, pics of flocks, or pics of you and yours holding dead birds.
I was talking to one of the two big land owners I know (not me ), and asked him how his turkeys were doing this year. He gave...
A friend of mine shot this a few years ago near Attwood, KS. He asked me if I had ever mounted a snake before and if I would be interested in ever doing one. I've mounted fish and birds before, but had never done a reptile. It was definitely a learning experience, but I think it turned out...
I spit my coffee when I read Carptom's account of his dog pooping on a stranger. Probably can't top that story, but does anybody have some good tales of their dog's embarrassing behavior?
One time when I took Rusty to PetSmart, we got ambushed by two really irritating kids in the parking lot...
When I was cleaning my SW Kansas bird for dinner I noticed something different about his spurs. It sure looks to me like this sucker was growing a second set of 'em. Is that what it looks like to you too?
I have to admit that my rooster count for the last two years is WAAAY down so I...
I had no idea about the reputation points, but at least everybody is on a "distinguished road".
So if somebody says something smart, are we supposed to add to their reputation?
QH, I gave you a reputation point just to see how it worked.
Just got home last night from SW Kansas. Met a good hunting buddy at 4:30 AM in Newton, KS on Friday morning and headed West for good times and adventures. After getting blanked earlier this year in NW Kansas, I didn't expect to shoot anything, but figured that going was a better choice than...
I would encourage Kansas sportsmen to vote yes on the proposition to reclassify the way watercraft are taxed. The state currently hoses me every year because I am honest and register my boat in Kansas. The "luxury" tax on my fishing boat is twice as high as the taxes on my truck.
Thanks for...
Anybody know what this is? I am pretty sure I didn't plant it. It must have survived the tilling and the burn I did before I planted my shrubs. I hope it is desirable, because it seems to be growing great in spite of the tough conditions that have stunted or killed everything I have tried to...
I was talking snake bites with the dogs' vet today, and she mentioned that some people use a hot shot on the bite. Apparently the electricity flowing between the two prongs somehow aligns the protiens in the snake's venom, causing it to be less damaging to the dog's tissue.
Has...
You may have seen my thread on the Kansas forum about how the dogs and I are trying to get in better shape before prairie chicken season. Here's what I have been doing, and it has been beneficial to all of us. Here's my setup in case anybody else wants to give it a try...:D
Disclaimer::eek...
So... I've been trying to think of any way I can, to show off my impressive:rolleyes: shooting abilities to all of you.;)
There seem to be quite a few of us in NE Kansas.... And there seem to be a few doves... And dove shooting seems to be somewhat more social than a typical upland bird...
Just gotta brag for a second. So I started "couch to 5k" four weeks ago, and also have been biking for the past tree weeks. Crazy Daisy and I are jogging about six miles a week, and I've been running Loony Junie off the bike about twice that distance per week.
It feels really good...
