SDGFP cracking down on non-resident resident licensing?

WOw did I open up a can of worms. From what I gather you can be a resident of SD for tax purposes and vehicle registration for far less time than to qualify for a resident hunting license. That I can understand,AK requires you to be a resident for 1 year to get a resident fishing and hunting...

SDGFP cracking down on non-resident resident licensing?

Right now I am traveling the southwest. The campgrounds have many South Dakota plates. One camper said all SD requires is for you to spend one night every 5 years in SD to be a resident. Now these people are full time RVers and are not real residents of any state. I met one couple who have lived...

    On X question

For what it is worth we put the ND plots maps on an I pad and use that for getting to the general area and than onx on the phone to fine tune. I would assume other states would have similar maps.

    Little help

It keeps getting slowly better. So I’ll stick my head in the sand and tough it out. If it is not better when I go home(Feb?) I’ll go see a Doc. I’ll have to find a new one since all my old ones have retired.

    Little help

Thanks guys for all your help. I’m bumbling around but have found enough birds to empty the gun a few times. They do seem to run like roosters and the dogs are doing fine flushing singles. Not quite as exciting as pheasant hunting but nice weather and plenty of country to walk. Maybe it not as...

    Mild weather hunting

Okay more cool data, but hasn’t convinced me to get a pointing dog yet. That said I saw some really good vizulas at an agility trial and am thinking of adding one to the household.

    Gobsmacked on public land!!!

Minnesota plates have a reputation for that behavior in MT and the Dakotas. I’ve never hunted in Minnesota partially because of that reason. I always figured that it had to do with the crowded conditions in Minnesota.

    Mild weather hunting

Now that is cool. I’ll buy lunch if you can mark the points and flushes on there.

    Gas Prices

Years ago I worked on a house in AK that someone from MN owned. He claimed to be an AK resident for tax purposes but his business was in MN. Don’t know how he did it but he claimed by being an AK resident it reduced his taxes so much he could fly back to MN a couple times a month and still be...

    Dog in Heat Questions

They hunt just fine in heat. Just keep them close so nobody else runs into you. Now if you also have an intact male he maybe out to lunch for a while.

    Golden Retriever question

A bit off topic but I did an agility trial today and one of my goldens got first and another got third in the masters standard run. This was with me having a bum knee. This week they will get introduced to desert quail I hope if I can figure out where to go for them.

    Lots of hunters

It is probably the best private land program to allow the public to hunt. There are a lot of different rules. Some ranches allow only so many hunters, others make you contact the landowners and others just allow you to hunt by just signing in. A great program that is abused by some and loved by...

    Bacon Ranch Pheasant Burger Sandwich

That sounds great, will try it when I get home. Last summer i wrapped some breasts in bacon and smoked them. Afterwards I cut them up and used on a pizza. Might smoke some and mix with bacon and grind for burgers now.

    Lots of hunters

That is why for the last 3 years I have used a travel trailer. Might not save any money but the meals and peace of mind are priceless.

    Golden Retriever question

I’ve had goldens for hunting since the 70s, yes I am that old. Sometime around when Ford became president they became extremely popular and the hunting ability suffered. The hunting lines have come back and I see more of them in certain areas of the country. The northwest and alaska has a lot of...

    Little help

The only good memory of the accident was that I got a double on roosters over my young dog about 15 minutes before I fell in the hole. She was working another one which I missed while half in the hole. Swelling is going down now, I even put my own shoes on today.

    Little help

So my pheasant season ended a bit early when I stepped in a badger hole and my good knee looks like a soccer ball. However my travels will take me through AZ. Middle of December. So I know nothing about desert quail but would like to give it a shot. Give me the basics, at least enough so I can...

    Lots of hunters

Yes I have been hunting the plains since the 90s. I’ve only driven the last 4 years, flying with a stashed vehicle in Seattle. Since retirement I have stashed a trailer in MT and drive just a car. Most NR licenses I’ve had in a year is 4. You must take a different route than me to see that many...

    Lots of hunters

I found out about MT back in the 90s by pure luck. Than Wing and Shot and a couple other mags had features on it. The internet has only made it worse. Take away a large amount of CRP and it is more crowded.

    Motels

Fought that battle for years and hated it. I usually travel with 4 dogs and told them 2. after all goldens all look alike right. Now I use a travel trailer and have total piece of mind. No hassle to speak of with almost all campgrounds.
