    Vest suggestions

I use a Q5 centerfire. I can't see much difference between a final rise and what I have, but I have never held a final rise in person. My Q5 has a ton of storage area and wears very nicely. It looks like a similar configuration would put you at about $60ish cheaper than a final rise as...

I always wondered why Nebraska wasn't a popular state. I've never hunted there because I've never heard that I needed too. So what gives? Seems like Nebraska should have everything available to make birds like their northern and southern sisters. Or is it just the best-kept secret going?

    Poor man’s quail

No, the woodcock are our only local attraction. We point the truck northwest in the fall to chase the mighty pheasant in the prairies. Woodcock keep me and the birddog sane until we can do it all over again. Shooting can be tight in some places but that’s what makes it fun. Lots of pine...

Our final weekend of season in Iowa

Action like that and you almost forget fingers can even get cold! Pretty dog, too.

    Poor man’s quail

We had some great hunts, that’s for sure. Got to hunt with good friends and see a lot of pretty woods. Ready for next fall when we will point the truck northwest and start all over again.

    Poor man’s quail

Managed a few more today and most likely my last hunt of the year as I think I have used up all of my brownie points with the missus. It’s been a great season and a lot of fun. Grace got some excellent work in this year.

Let's see pics of your bird hunting truck or SUV set up!

For our out of state ventures and training during the summer, I pull this. It gets the job done.

    Poor man’s quail

Got warm quick today. Should have had my 3 for a limit but I got caught taking pictures videos of Grace pointing when the bird flushed.

    Saw another 105# dog.

He’s not 105 but he hangs around a lean and solid 95lbs. Gentle giant to everyone.

    Poor man’s quail

What a morning to be out in the Good Lords woods. Some great dog work and shooting had us done quickly.

    New dogs, new here

Very bold first post. Congrats on the new pup and NA test. Bird hunting spots are hard-earned in this day and time. Part of the beauty in finding and killing the birds is having put in the leg work to make all the parts come together. It sounds like you have already started that journey...

    Poor man’s quail

Found a few more yesterday. Birds in this spot were a little more jumpy, maybe hunted already. Dang pine trees and brush kept jumping right in front of my sure-to-be kill shots.

    Poor man’s quail

Some of both. We will keep some for the season, some will stay all year long, and some will head on down to Ga/Fl for sunnier skies and bikini weather.

    Poor man’s quail

I am in the bird-poor state of South Carolina.

    Brush pants with zipper legs

Have you considered chaps? Wear the pants you want and slide the chaps over top of them very easily.

    Poor man’s quail

Got out for the woodcock opener this foggy, humid morning. The bird dog is tired and happy now.
