What is a good quail hunt?

I'm happy to see a quail in my state. Here, if you want to guarantee some bird contacts, you bring the birds with you.

New O/U 20 GA for Pheasant and Ruffed Grouse

I can't speak to the quality of the post-covid 686's but I have pre-covid model and love it. Your budget allows for quite a few choices. Get over to a store or sporting clays venue and see which one fits you best.

    Poor man’s quail

I hear ya. It's in my 5 year plan. Trying to let my girls get a little older so momma won't have so much on her plate. Chukars, huns, sharptails, they are all on the list. Hard to imagine liking anything more than a pheasant cackling though. Maybe its a good thing I haven't run...

Those birds are just flat-out beautiful. One day..

    Slowing your dog

Has the dog been properly conditioned to the ecollar? Does she understand what the correction is for? I don’t like to put negative pressure on a dog who is working either, especially young dogs. But eventually the dog crosses a point where correction is warranted. If I am recalling my dog...

Now, that’ll make a man real jealous.

WTB VJP and HZP Test Video

Looking for a used copy of the VDD-GNA JGHV VJP and HZP test video. It's offered in USB and DVD format and I would be happy with either. Please let me know if you have a copy you are willing to part with or even rent out. Thanks Wes

    Small Munsterlander

You fellas need to move some place where freedom still exists. We've got 2, soon to be 3 dogs, chickens, 2 pigs (for eating), and at certain times of the year an assortment of homing pigeons, ducks, and quail.

I'm in the south. 3 dogs wouldn't even begin to scratch the itch of some deer and hog guys. 4 might be too much, I admit it. But we have had 3 in the house with us for a long time.

    Slowing your dog

That's kinda what I am figuring, too.

    Slowing your dog

Is the dog busting the bird out of range? Or is he just hunting further than you want? Those are two different issues.

    Slowing your dog

How old is he? Does he point regularly?

    Kennel dogs and house dogs

I think it has to do with how you raise them. Yes, you should definitely do your research. Working dogs need a job and will find something to do, usually not good, if you don't give them something to do.

    Slowing your dog

Is he a flusher or a pointer?

I have no reservations about the new draht puppy coming home soon. I have a female GWP now and I have been around several others. I also own a Chesapeake, another breed infamous for being standoff-ish to strangers and often wrongly accused of being aggressive. Both are at my office right...

Well, I knew I married a good woman but she really proved it last night when she gave me her blessing to go pick up the german, bearded dog I've had my eye on. We are also going to meet some people who own small munsterlanders this week to get a feel for the animals. Small sample size but it...

    Small Munsterlander

I have done some limited reading on them and this has started to be a concern. Based on what I have seen, they seem to have a niche fan-club but everyone on the outside of that group just thinks they are "Ok". I've had a GSP and currently own GWP and a Chesapeake Bay Retriever. Trained a...

Alright, I need some honest reviews and opinions. My wife is on this kick about getting one of these. I have my eye on something German and bearded, specifically. Whatever we end up with will be used for hunting (upland and doves) and will spend the rest of it's time with me at the office...
