    Grouse report

Grouse doesn't open until September 14th. We're just going north for a weeks getaway, but we do alot of hiking while we are on vacations, so it's a good opportunity to see/hear birds.

    Grouse report

Wisconsin Drumming Survey for 2024 showed a 60% increase for the Northern area from 2023....so hopefully that trends nicely with numbers. It was a really mild winter/spring for the Northern area.

    Grouse report

Headed up to the Northwoods for a week beginning Saturday. Wife, dog and I typically hit up places to hike every day, so it also quickly becomes a grouse scouting trip! LOL! Hoping to add a few more places to my list from last year to hit up this fall.

    Must Haves?

I'm from Wisconsin....it's typically Whiskey Old Fashion Sour or Southern Comfort Old Fashion Sour for me......

    Must Haves?

Between hunting and fishing travel, I have learned to keep a running tote of kitchen/house supplies.....from utensils to garbage bags to dish soap to paper products to etc! It's a traveling tote that I know has probably more than we need in it, but depending on where we are and time of day, if...

    Eureka SD Hunt First Time

My 1st ever trip to SD I stayed in Hosmer and hunted that area up to Eureka and north of it. Being 1st time ever out there, took a bit to figure out what I needed to look for. Next couple of years stayed in Hecla, but still made a day run over to the Eureka area to hit familiar spots and found...

    Long Distance Traveling for Birds

The places I have stayed at in ND, SD, and northern Wisconsin all allow dogs inside the residence. That has included a mix of Airbnb and "cabins". It's kind of a must for us. The dogs get a good cleaning and look over, any needs get tended to, then they get to stretch out and rest on comfortable...

    Dog skin and coat care

With my labs, I've always had good luck with Johnson & Johnson Baby Shampoo....it's pretty chemical free. It's great for sensitive skin, especially from grass itches, nettle, etc. I don't bath alot either, plenty of water time and just a clean water rinse after lake, pond or marsh, but there...

    Lab guys sorry but....

For sure! Once the diabetes issue popped with my last lab, fresh beans, carrots, broccoli and celery! And honestly, much cheaper once the gardens come in! Lol!

    Lab guys sorry but....

Only reason for me that I brought up the table scrap issue is two fold for me......my previous Lab and his brother both developed diabetes after about 4 years. My sister/brother in law had young kids and Mom would watch them alot. Mom also watched both dogs alot. As it played out, the dogs were...

    Why I love labs

I told him if we get stranded in the wild and he wants to eat, he's gotta pull his weight! 😆😆 He will gather firewood at least! 🤦‍♂️

    Lab guys sorry but....

I fully agree on the "build" of a lab and the concerns for the grounding and pounding they put on. Larger bone structure, larger muscle structure, broader build.....and they have the ability to put weight on quickly. My Lab will be 8 in July. I have had him on glucosamine chews for some time...

    Lab guys sorry but....

Yawn on this whole versatile thing. Yes, by NAVHDA definition, a Labrador Retriever does not fit the NAVHDA definition of "it's" recognized versatile breeds. So what, it's "their" list. A dog, any dog, can be trained to do any task.....even those that don't come from parents that have long names...

    Let's Bitch (Can't Hunt)

After a long day in the field, on the water, or on the ice, a couple of cold beers hit the spot.....then a Old Fashion or two........sometimes it's a nightcap of Bourbon instead.....just depends on the day!
