Pheasant hunting with kids on thanksgiving

Nothing against lab (that is all that I have personally owned and love hunting behind them), but at bird farm, they will likely also have pointers to hunt behind (and also let you bring your dogs). Pointing dogs help novices prepare for the flush. You are doing the right thing by seeking more...

    Hunting solo tactics

The trainer i used believed in quiet hunting and uses the ECollar "nick" to turn and a short press on constant on very low stimulation to recall if she's ranges too far or to call her off of a missed birds or hen. In the Kansas wind, this helps tremendously with communication. I've had several...

    Hunting solo tactics

My lab does this also... I know she is just excited but it annoying. She walks backwards, staring at me and barking the moment we get out of the truck if I'm holding a gun and won't stop unless i bump her collar or tell her to go hunt. She does this EVERY time we stop at a new spot. I know it...

The Backroad Hunting and Camping Solution

Well....$10,000 is too cheap! You can't find those that are nice anywhere for that price, I'll take 2 of them.😜

The Backroad Hunting and Camping Solution

I suck at math, but since I have a calculator, I was able to deduce that I could own your rig for $54,000?!? That's tempting!!;) Nothing better than the old conversion vans!

any advice on how to scout WIHI remotely using technology?

When are you planning your trip? Opening weekend will be tough for me to help you out, because we will not have the birds "located" yet. After I get out a few times, I'll have a better idea of what area has birds and I would be happy to share some public land info in my area that are holding birds.

    If you wing a bird

This has to be considered a "versatile dog"!! ;):p

    If you wing a bird

I agree with Pete's comment above, however, when talking about self retrieval success rate, I am no where near 95% if a dog isn't present. If I see the birds head is still up and makes a "somewhat controlled landing", this is normally bad news.... with or without a dog. Hunting in Kansas...

Here is one thing I've really struggled with

Not to get too far off topic, but I think there is something to this dying of a broken heart. Outside of hunting my old lab LOVED going in the RV to the lake. He rode on the dash (I know, unsafe if there was an accident) and that was "his" spot. As he got older, he spent most days inside the...

    28 guage

A "guide" at a kick and shoot venue helped me... He said a tighter choke and shoot at the white ring around their necks. Then he said make sure I've let go of the bird before you shoot. (Probably the reason he said a tighter choke tube?!? 🤣) I've shot and fatally injured plenty of wild rooster's...

    Retirement gift for me!

First off, congratulations on retirement and thank you for your service! In regards to your stated budget, I don't think you can go wrong with a Browning. I have a few different models, some that I like and some that I love. For sporting clays, I prefer my 525 Sporting and would recommend...

eenie meenie miney mo... which state should we go?

The best advice I can give is be prepared to "bundle up" as it can be miserable. Making their first hunting experience less miserable is probably your main objective if I am guessing. In my personal experiences with my kids, having warm boots that don't give blisters after all day hunting (kids...

    Must Haves?

I was just recently informed that the handy tailgate step built into most F-150's works really well as an outdoor toilet. Even the upright handle holds a roll of toilet paper until you are ready to use it! Ford thinks of EVERYTHING!! :ROFLMAO:

    Needing another lab!!!

The breeder that I got my 2 year old female out of in Oklahoma came from AI semen out of Teddy. Below is a link to Teddy's owner's website. I think that Teddy has puppies all over the country and they may be able to connect you with an upcoming litter. If you have any question about my dog...

I was just visiting with a friend of mine that lives in Winter Park that used to live in Western Kansas and going on our first ever grouse hunt. I see from your last message post that you hunt near Coalmont which is relatively close to WP. He works in Granby and Kremmling, os probably familiar...

"Thank you" for access to land?

Goosemaster, please tell us the rest of the story about him shooting the combine! Until the true version comes out I'm only able to "assume" that you guys were standing at the end of an unharvested field "blocking"?!? 🤔🤦🤣 I asked for clarification only because I have witnessed this before, it...
