    Went to the Darkside

She's going to be perfect for you. You already made most of the mistakes we all make, and you have firm vision of what you expect. She will be happy to oblige you. :D

Well, if you're not taking me hunting then...

I'll just take a little side-trip next time you let me out. Here you go: Hey, I was getting bored, okay?

    Henry Single Shot Shotguns

I carry the shotgun at (roughly) port arms and cock it as I am bringing it up to my shoulder to track and shoot. I practice bringing the gun up while cocking it at home, and mounting to my shoulder and tracking the front bead along the junction of wall and ceiling. I want to ingrain the muscle...

    Henry Single Shot Shotguns

I have four singles, two Hercules and two "other"; all have exposed hammers. Not really an issue for me, although I'm not surprised when a glove doesn't pull the hammer back as I'm raisng the gun to track a bird. Part of the package. Do love them though, not only for the lightness of the gun and...

    Dog's Name

Re-reading thread, it occurred to me that one of the long distance aviators had a teddy bear in the cockpit she named "Dammit." That's an endearment I have used occasionally when hunting. Just seems appropriate for the moment.

Sun setting on another season and a career for Breez

RedDog... You GOTTA read "Run, Rainey, Run." , by Mel Ellis. Out of print, but available from some used book sellers. Great true stories of a GSP and an outdoor writer/editor (Ellis was with the Milwaukee Journal and a Field Editor for Sports Afield), and their adventures with upland game and...

Looking for a single dog training collar...like the Tritronics G3

Thanks BDC and birddude, My use of the collar is so rare, I'll just nurse the old Tritronics along, and maybe just get a cheapie from eBay. Of all my dogs, only Young Bert, the not-right dog, needed encouragement to return to me and my hunting priorities...and that was very seldom. I'm...

Looking for a single dog training collar...like the Tritronics G3

Don't need much and don't use much, but I consider it insurance out in the field. My old collar worked fine--until it did't. It might have felt neglected. Message with type and cost. Thanks. No hurry.

    20 vs 28

My only experiences with a 28ga is watching two friends of mine shoot. They were strangers to each when I introduced them on a hunt, and coincidentally they both used 28 BPS guns. The only similarity I noticed with them is that they were both excellent field shooters and had gravitated to the...

55? 55 is nothing !!! It's hardly even a speed limit anymore. You are a ute...er...hang on...(spell check)...youth !!! Each hunt will echo those of years ago and the dog work will hearken back to the great dogs you've worked with in your career. Welcome Sir. Please post life stories and...

Sun setting on another season and a career for Breez

My empathy and sympathy Reddog. That couch picture makes me think that there should be a section in dog competions: "Couch Lounging." Breeze would provide some tough competition.
