    Hammered birds

Maybe you might try and slow down the lightning-like response to the birds' flushes and let them get out a bit. That, or if you can, put an IC in? (Waiting's cheaper.) You might start by taking a bunch of treats, or kibble, and give the dog one while congratulating him profusely upon his...

    Beretta Gortex hunting coat-Ladies

Citori? From what I've heard, some british-made barbour -type hunting jackets always have a left-hand zipper. You might reconsider selling it, if you like it. Best wishes.

    Runners

Or...just take it as part of the dance between your dog, the bird, and you. In fairness, the bird is trying to escape an armed and licensed killer. :)

Looking into my first double gun!

I'm old, and old-fashioned, so sxs are what my imagination conjures when I think of a bird hunter and his shotgun. That said, although the most I've had at one time is four, I mostly use an AYA Matador II, 20g, imp cyl and mod, 25 inch barrels, and got rid of the others except for a venerable...

    Dog chasing rabbits

Over the years, my dogs, mostly GWPs, have jumped rabbits, some of which have fallen to my gun and been retrieved by my dogs. Really, never been a problem, or if it was, I just yelled "NO!" and changed my direction; most dogs followed me (although not always). Now part of my acceptance of their...

Small, but meaningful steps in training

The On-going education of Maggie Well, we've gone through fetching socks, soft watch caps, half an empty peanut butter jar (which bounces like a ping-pong ball), a five-year old pheasant wing, a 1-week old pheasant wing, two retrieving dummies with new pheasant scent on them, the recently shot...

    Columbia Lightweight Brush Pants

Ask women you talk to at a grocery store, or call a fabric shop, tell them you need a seamstress and ask if they have folks who take in sewing. Best wishes

    Columbia Lightweight Brush Pants

Just a thought: shouldn't be too hard to find some who does sewing repairs to put on a patch to hold a cell phone on pants you like for hunting. I live out side a small town and there's a lady who makes dresses and such for folks, and who has repaired levis and such for over the years. A...

First bird in two years !!!

Oh,and I finally figured out how to change the date on the camera I just started using. It now thinks it is 2022 and not 2006.

First bird in two years !!!

Owing to some health issues, one after another, I didn't get out last year, and had some trepidation about my leg strength for hunting this year. Tinker and I went out earlier this week to try out my legs which did not do so well. No birds and no energy to hunt the nooks and crannies to find...

    2022 Season

If you've got over-lapping seasons like that, and if you might have some of the reckless hunters-in-license-only as I do in Wisconsin, I'd strongly recommend a blaze orange vest for all your dogs. No matter all the precautionary statements presented to them, there are some shoot-it-its-moving...

    World's longest rifle shot record

Looked up another site which may answer some of your questions. https://www.outdoorlife.com/guns/new-world-record-longest-rifle-shot/ I am equally amazed at the shot and the fact that there are guys out there who would make that kind of investment of time and money to attempt it. Oh, and it...

    World's longest rifle shot record

The previous record of 4 miles set in 2020 was defeated recently by a 4.4-mile target hit in the high desert of western Wyoming. The bullet took 24 seconds to hit the 8-inch bullseye, but breaking the record had been the goal for over a year. After setting the Wyoming state record of 3.06...

    New upland shotgun?

Let's not get in to an "either-or" discussion about gauges, different strokes for different folks, or both for everybody. :) Have a great season and be safe.

Looking into my first double gun!

Do they make in 26in barrels? For speed of handling and quickness of target acquisition, and sometimes, just plain room to maneuver, that extra length on the 28in can make a difference. For all that, I've heard good reports on the CZ--only thing was how tight it was when new. Best wishes.

Looking into my first double gun!

I won't go on at length, but I've been shooting an AYA 20ga Matador II, imp cyl and mod, 26in barrel for everything except geese, turkeys, and deer and love it, without qualification. It has a vent rib, single elective trigger and wonderful wood. I got the gun in 1970 after shooting a friend's...

At seven months, the pup is still going to school and still experiencing WONDERFUL new scents and hunting fields. Since that is the case, the November date would give it more ease of movement, better visibility (for you to see it), and most likely, more comfortable temps for the hunts. Pups...
