...Closest location to find good numbers of wild quail from the Carolinas?

Kansas is probably your best bet. Don't get your hopes up for shooting the limit there. Skip the walk ins, put the work in and you'll find some birds.

Semi repost: what is everyone's layering system

I don't mean to hijack the thread, but what is it about hunting while it's snowing? I've loved it since I was a kid. I got a nice one in this year.

You must be an exception up there! When I was up there, folks couldn't believe that I actually got out of the truck to shoot them.

Come on guys, open your eyes!! Goose is some little dude sitting in a cubical in Russia!!! His sole purpose in life is to divide us! When we're frustrated, we're weak. When we're weak, PETA will take over. Not many people know it, but they are a Russian asset themselves. Then the government...

I'm curious, do you notice any slipping with the innertube boots?

    Front feet??

Have heard guys say they only put boots on their dog's front feet. Anyone have an opinion? I'm not sure it's worth the risk.

Yup, after grouse hunting for a while, I would literally take a breath before I shouldered the gun for fear of blowing them to smithereens.

I used to live for grouse hunting. So, I understand what you mean. Instinctive shooting is a form of sustained lead. Gun comes up in front of the bird and the trigger is yanked, and the bird rolls. Then I would stand there thinking How'd I do dat!

At 15 degrees or so, tee shirt, sweatshirt, Flannel shirt, sweatpants, hunting bib overalls, hunting coat. Under 15 degrees, I'll just clean some guns and look out the window! As for 1/4 sip stuff, have a look at the game hide sweatshirt. I have one with the game bag on it. It's pretty good but...

My buddy and I were just talking about that yesterday. I was bragging about my shooting prowess, then proceeded to miss the next two and kill the next one on the second shot. And the time he shot 5 quail strait, then missed the rest of his shots the rest of the day. You know the moral of the story!

A simple way to raise your colm is a piece of mole skin. I think someone makes a pad with different shims also. But strait away clay pigeons will do it also. I think I seem to focus on the movement of the wings and not the head a lot, giving me infamous ass shot.

Strait away rising and strait incoming is basically the same sight picture. You need to cover the bird with the sight. easier said than done most of the time.
