The thought of "if I leave at 5am...." started on me yesterday and has haunted me all day today. The thought of this thing ending and the thought of hitting the road for one more day this year may just get the best of me before morning. Might just be "sick" tomorrow

If it wasn't on private it's very very tough anymore. I spent almost $500 just in licenses to drive out of KS to go hunt another state this year. Next year will be the same except when I can get on private ground.

Just got back from that general area yesterday. There's still birds for sure but like others have said they're educated and have their running shoes on. The depression sank in bad on the way home this trip, I was able to make six trips this year but I'm guessing this was my last for this year.

No I understand how they raise funds, I'm more curious of the allocation and usage of them, particularly when it comes to private ground.

How does that work for private land? Are you just seeking advice? Are they charging you for trips to your place? And what assistance are they offering?

Here's what I've noticed. The one on the right is a KS bird and is representative of most I've ever taken here, some even have more fat but the same color. The bird on the left is from SD, shot in grass right next to corn and his crop was full of corn.

I've noticed it early and late season now. I'll take some pics when I get home as I have some still soaking. In this instance these were three of the bigger birds I've killed in SD. All were in areas where corn would be a high majority of their diet and they have little to no fat and its white.

Mainly the fat. I've shot pen raised birds in KS and they have that same fat. I don't think to check the beaks although I've told myself multiple times to look. We've also shot some small birds in the last few years but I attributed it to late hatches up north.
