    How many shells?

I do have to chuckle a little bit at the beginning of TV shows like The Flush where they dump a whole box of prairie storm in their pocket in the parking lot 🤣 id be embarrassed to be on TV if I thought i needed 25 shells for 3 pointed birds.

    How many shells?

I usually take 8 or 10 for pheasant. Usually 4 in the easy open pocket on my right side (2 for gun 2 for reloading) and then 4-6 in a more secure pocket so i dont accidentally lose them bending over or crossing a fence. If I shoot 8 shells and dont have 3 birds, then its either time to accept...

Should I feel bad cutting a stock?

Youll be alright, unless there is a health issue regarding recoil sensitivity. Just purchase 1oz trap loads for practicing and shoot 1 1/8 or 1 1/4 pheasant loads in the field, avoid the super high velocity loads if possible. Dont let the thought of o/u being more recoil get in stuck your head...

Why did you go with the breed that you did and have you been satisfied?

Happy Birthday today, milforester. I have always wanted to hunt with a Britt, i see them fairly often on the public grounds around here and they always look like extremely intelligent dogs.

That also seems to be getting people confused these days, watching YouTube videos and not realizing that yardages look a mile away. I shot a bird this year that looked 35-40 yards on camera and everyone was saying what a great shot it was, took my puppy 6 strides to get to it so it may have been...

What helped me a ton was shooting paper. You get a visual on how big your target is while looking down the barrel and how far it looks using ground relation, and eventually its just instinct. My brain thinks of the yardage the bird flushes at to know if its going to be worth shouldering the gun...

The plated may have been 15fps faster. Only way to test is to shoot one BB through a regulated air powered barrel and chorograph each shot, throwing out ones that are different from the base line. Boss says 30yds for steel so they can still sell their bismuth as the hammer of thor

Why did you go with the breed that you did and have you been satisfied?

I chose black lab because i am a waterfowl hunter first, and yellows seem to be bred dumb in my area. I love my dog like no other, but now that I am more into upland than ever before I wish i had a GSP. The lab gets hot quick with sunshine, and they get wore out quick (low stamina) when they...

Federal tried copper plated steel in their old "classic" gray box line of steel shot in the 90s. It makes no difference at all, other than helping to protect the shot from rusting (like zinc steel does). Boss makes and copper washes their bismuth shot in house, so im guessing when they bought...

For what it is, yeah its cheap. Pheasants at the nearest DNR approved farm are $20 each plus tax, for dog training. The preserve is $100 tax included for 4 phez or 10 quail. Was lots of birds in the field to make up for the runners that got out, pretty much a guarantee to get your 4. Extra birds...

However what needs to be said is that a lot of guys 30yd shots are 40+, and their 40 yard pokes are pushing 60yds... Thats why a lot of hunters struggle with clean hits, the birds are way way out there long past where your gun is choked for. Shots often seem closer when you have a pointer...

I struggle big time on clays or doves at 40 yards, i bet i could hit a rooster or mallard at 40-50 way more than 50% of the time. I know i can on a mallard, been there done that playing cleanup for the blind years ago. There is a HUGE difference between clays and roosters. I dont think ive ever...

I finally visited a preserve local to me for the first time recently, had a good time and got the dogs some work. Birds held extremely tight or ran like chickens, with no in-between, but flew well and a good time was had by all. It doesn't give the rush of cornering and getting up a wild...

Theres about 100x the public hunting land in SD than NW IA. Theres almost 15x public land acres in SD than all of Iowa. (5 million in SD and 400K in Iowa). NW IA corner has about 50k acres, SD has 5 million. I think youll have less pressure in SD personally.

PSA-Loosen up that choke, or get rid of it altogether

See, that right there is what I am talking about. Its a simple concept in the mind, but patterning will show that it is not the case. Well i guess TECHNICALLY it is the case, but not practically. Between an IC and Mod we are talking MAYBE an extra inch of useable pattern diameter in the core. If...

That is because federal hulls are shorter than cheddites (kent), not that cheddites are long. Cheddites (kent) and fiocchi will be of "standard" length, with american being shorter. Dont know why rems would be longer than federal, they might have used a special hull for that load though. Saami...

PSA-Loosen up that choke, or get rid of it altogether

In at least 3 threads where i told you to pattern your gun, and you reply with "maybe i will take a piece of cardboard out one of these days". There are new wads in factory shells as of the last 5 years.. 40 year old plastic is not the same as todays plastic, wad designs are not the same in...

100%. And if all else fails, find a local shooting coach. He/she will check gun fit, hold, swing, everything along with giving you tips at the range. Check local shooting clubs and see if they have a local coach they recommend. Some even have a package deal worked out with the club, where you...
