    Your "Go-To" gun and why?

I've got a couple of those on my watch list on G.B. now. I'm trying to decide whether to by one or have mine with 28'' tubes cut down and chokes installed.

    Gloves for brutal weather

If it's truly brutal outside (like now} I'm not going to need gloves. I'm going to be sitting here Posting some BS.

    Your "Go-To" gun and why?

Preserve birds Ugartechea 20 sxs Imp. Cyl. As I think I've said before. If I lived where I could hunt any time I wanted I might hunt with a sub gauge, probably a 16. But as long as I have to drive 10 hours I'm not screwing around. I'll hunt with my Beretta ultralight full and xtra full.

    Poor man’s quail

Don't put it off to long Molli. I used to dream about wild Chuckers. Now I think I waited too long!

    Pad care?

Yeah, R&R. You might help it dry and heal with some Epson salts but boots or not I've never been able to hunt a dog with that bad of pad. Ice and or rock will do that pretty quickly. Sometimes it just happens.

    where’s Bob

I cordially protest. What's next? Can't say Flare Nare? Can't make fun of A5's misses? Maybe I'm next? Censorship is a slippery slope! I'll leave it at that. I'm with Mioforester.

Anyone use bird bags like this?

I have the Cabela's Nylon one. It worked pretty good until my gut got bigger than my ass. Then when I got a bird or two in it, I looked like a rapper going across a field!

    Shot Variety

If I'm not trying to push a bird in a certain direction, I always approach the point from the dog's side a few feet. I want the dog to see me, but do not want to get directly between the dog and the bird as I think it makes the dog loose concentration, possibly causing the dog to flush. It also...

    Slowing your dog

That works great if you hunt alone or with someone who does not use a whistle. But I've had months of training undone in an afternoon hunting with someone who uses the whistle for a substitute for COME BACK HERE YOU S.O.B. I got tired of hearing a friend constantly screaming for his dog so I...

    Slowing your dog

You are correct. It's always iffy to shock a dog while it smells or sees it's quarry. No matter what breed. I would turn the collar down and start by giving her a budge every time she gets out of shotgun range. Turn the collar up until you get the response you want. If the collar has a vibrate...

    16 gauge

Wipe her down with an oily rag and go with it. I know how you feel, but on the other hand almost a sin to destroy that patina. Just think if those scratches could talk!

Who has lost one or found one in the parking lot?

My brother and dad were quail hunting many years ago. I was driving my dad's truck. I laid my beloved 37 Ithaca on the roof, fished dad's keys from my pocket and unlocked the truck. Then loaded up the dogs and drove about 10 miles to another place. We had already unloaded the dogs. Dad and my...

    Worth the trip?

Looks like it's going to thaw out the last week. But we all know what the roads will be like. We got some contacts, so I guess we'll find out. If it doesn't happen, I'll have to settle for some chukar shoots.

    Dogs over 10

Meloxicam will help until it won't. At that point I let them out 1st and take a short pretend hunt. It's the least I can do.
