Is this an old or young pheasant?

That extra spur isn't like the main one....

    Your "Go-To" gun and why?

I am still using the first shotgun I bought myself. Gave my father back his hand-me-down 870 after the purchase. For almost 4 decades I have been shooting the 11-87. It is almost a part of me after this long. No off season shooting, just grab and go. I am not good enough to be switching...

    Future of CRP ?

GTTP I have to think they do way more private projects (food plots, shelter belts, etc) than public land projects. Each chapter controls their own funds, so it would vary. They will give money for acquisitions, but once the land is turned over to a government agency, that agency manages it...

    Future of CRP ?

Nice Maynard. The weed mat/fabric would have saved hundreds of hours trying to control the weeds in the first 3-4 years. Got lucky when we put in 1300 shrubs, had a couple rainy springs the first 2 years. They were a crap-ton of work, but now they are an awesome addition to the habitat. Even...

    Future of CRP ?

I hope things come-together on your plan. Love pics as habitat is created. It really changes your thinking when you create the habitat that you hunt and know those birds wouldn't be there without the efforts you gave. A bit different that gaining permissions or rolling into a piece of public...

    Future of CRP ?

As far as seeding an entire parcel of CRP, I am not sure that is happening. One of the local county chapters to me, has offered a one-time additional incentive payments for new CRP sign-ups. They may have access native grass drills. If your are looking to plant trees/shrubs, they might have...

    Future of CRP ?

Go to the local banquet, find out who are the guys on the the habitat committee. Support them, spend money on the raffles, join the PF chapter at a sponsor level, the banquets are the big fund raiser that allows then to do everything they do. I think they will be willing to help if they have...

    where’s Bob

My last comment on the new direction it seems this is going. This is webguys site, period. He alone can decide who he wants and doesn't want in his space. He can alone decide what content is in this site. It seems some here are almost like this is a bunch of 4th graders that want to mess...

Same on my side of Iowa.

    where’s Bob

I have had Goose on ignore status for about as long as I have been on this site. I don't come here for the BS he was spewing and not of fan of the general direction this site seems to have been heading in the last few months. I might be a bit more serious about pheasants and pheasant hunting...

    where’s Bob

Maybe composing his next fairytale post. Anyone missing now could likely be frozen somewhere. It is -8* here currently, but it will get above zero today. For tomorrow (Monday) here (NW IA) it will be -1* to starting at Midnight tonight and stay below zero, finishing -12*. This is in Iowa...

Is this an old or young pheasant?

I would say he is a year and a half, not born this last spring/summer. The extra spur is pretty unusual, at least around me. I have seen one rooster that had the extra one on one leg only. I have seen a few pics on the internet of them. The one I saw is in my group rooster mount now.

    Pheasant Fest 2025 KC

Gim, you must have been in a bad mood that day...you paid nothing to get in, close enough you could have pedaled a bike to it and not impressed with what was there? It isn't meant to be a flea market or swap meet. It is a PF deal, not sure how they got hounding about a membership, but for $35...

    Pheasant Fest 2025 KC

Dogs....another thing they will have. A lot of different breeds and kennels will be there. Anything related to bird hunting and more.

    Pheasant Fest 2025 KC

Not going this year. Sioux Falls venue is closest to me, then Omaha, then Des Moines. MINNEAPOLIS, Chicago and KC are a bit further than I will travel. Don't bother if you want to purchase ammo. A great opportunity put hands on guns. Some of the vendors bring inventory of products to sell...

Would like your insight on a purchase for pheasant hunting

I am not familiar with the hunting coat in question, but if it really is an "upland hunting coat", does it not have big shell pockets and a front loading game pouch? And likely a half dozen other pockets? If it does, why would a strap vest be worn? I have an old Cabelas and a LL Bean coats...

Who has lost one or found one in the parking lot?

Dog....the next one, if there is a next one, will be more white than liver or black.
