This happened on the last trip

I am pretty sure no one wants to eat an animal that just died of "who knows what". If it was old age (doubtful), I am not in-line for that meat either. Probably lucky that bovine didn't die from a shotgun blast, it could have spelled an ending for all hunting on the fella's property.

    Preferred Hunt Start Time

About an hour after sunrise, maybe hour and a half. The birds have eaten and the sun is a bit higher, where it seems to not be in your eyes on every flush. But I start more often than not at 8:00AM, regardless of the sun's position. The early start insures getting me back home and the birds...

Things I learned and Questions I have

I hunted opening weekend with a couple fellas (a favor to our tenant) who were shooting the most beautiful old doubles you could imagine, they me all about those guns....long story short, after about 2 hours ( had my about the 1 hour mark) between the 2 of them, they took one rooster. "Take a...

Annual Broken Rusty Gun Projects wanted

Ok then. Use that internet on the gun auctions, you can likely get the "parts guns" (non-functioning) for cheap. If you don't like that, I am not sure what to tell you, most folks aren't going to just sent you guns, but you never know, it was worth a try I guess.

Annual Broken Rusty Gun Projects wanted

The reason I ask the question was your oddly worded post about cover and food plots, you seem to have never heard of on-line auctions and this odd thread title (ANNUAL). Are you very young or not from the USA, if so, I have a better understanding.

Annual Broken Rusty Gun Projects wanted

I know you have the internet, look-up your local auction companies that do "on-line" auctions. Look through their upcoming or current auctions for the ones selling firearm collections. The often have non-functioning junkers. How old are you?

    Future of CRP ?

Here is an article regarding limiting the Iowa DNR purchasing more land. I will guess some guy thought he would be buying a parcel for himself and PF, DU or a combination of groups bought it. Glad it was not successful, I remember emailing our law-makers against that short-sighted measure...

    Habitat, Crops Cover for Pheasants.

If you just google Pheasants Forever and poke around their site, you can find a lot of info.

    Habitat, Crops Cover for Pheasants.

Chemical free? Well, you will want to use herbicide if you have much weed pressure. A few weeds are fine, but remember, you are trying grow a crop for the birds. Talk with a local elevator agronomist regarding herbicide and fertilizer. See if these links work for PF offerings for grass mixes...

    Habitat, Crops Cover for Pheasants.

When you say "Cover crops" are you trying to refer to a food source plant in addition or different than corn? Or what does that mean, guessing not actual "cover crop". PF offers some mixes the could be broadcast seeded or maybe planted with corn plates/units in a row crop planter. Grain...

South - Southeast SD bird numbers?

When you leave SC and head north on I-29, you see lots of the cattails and lower wet areas that SD is famous for. Cross the Big Sioux to the east into Iowa and that terrain/habitat is different, much more tillable. All these low areas I see, I have no idea if these are state owned or private...

    Future of CRP ?

These groups don't want to own the ground with the land acquisitions, they want to create habitat and protect it into the future for the public. This is why they are supported by all sportsman/conservationists who are looking into the future. Where else will more public access acres come from?

    Future of CRP ?

I saw in SD they would plant the trees, then put the fabric mat down, they go back over, cut a slit and pull the tree through. Around here I "thought" they the machine that installs the fabric mot and then hand plant through the fabric. We used a pull-behind tree planter that you "rode-on" to...

    Your "Go-To" gun and why?

Well, there is a new method to clean your shotgun. Was that a Timex branded shotgun? The thing is a worker for sure! Good video!
