    Had two days of rainy weather and added 1.60" (PTL) at the Ponderosa making the total for the year at 2.95" Wheat harvest is really early this year by 2-3 weeks with some in the area getting cut next week. Haven't seen any hatches yet.

    Received our first rain of the year last night. Fast 1.25" The Ponderosa received no beneficial snow over the winter, so this rain was very welcoming, and I hope it "primes the pump". Praise the Lord!

    Very dry. Had a couple inches of snow on the level on February 10th. Had a few mini blizzards with just a little snow and gale force winds over the past few months. A lot of red flag days. Forecast looks to be dry for next ten days, with a 60% chance on saturday, the 27th. Thanks for checking...

    I have pulled out a lot of people on the minimum maintenance roads near the Ponderosa. Tearing up those roads that the farmers and ranchers have to use is not a way to win friends in the country.

    That is my concern as well. The early spring rains really produced a jungle in my waste areas. I feel the quail can find some shelter areas, but I worry that there will not be enough high calorie seeds available for them to maintain body temperature during the prolonged extreme low temperatures...

    Nice 4" of snow on the ground this morning. Loving it. Monday is looking bad at the moment. Snow chances and possible 60mph winds. Will see what really happens. Another chance of snow next Friday.

    Pheasants and quail

    If shooting O/U I will have a #5 or #6 in upper and a #7.5 or #8 in lower barrel. If shooting my pump I will load for pheasants. If there is a covey rise, I will not shoot the covey and change shells to my quail loads and let the dog hunt the singles.
