    Pointing Labs

My lab is not of a pointing lab line, but I worked alot with him to "point" when he was younger. As said above, if the bird, either wild or GF holds tight, he will lock up, square his head and shoulders, tail will go side to side absolute crazy like and he will posture one leg forward.....if the...

    Grouse report

I'll be headed up to the Hayward area Oct 15-19 to hang out with a buddy coming in from out of state to take care of some family stuff.. We'll probably take a couple walks for birds. How are the leaves looking that way? How are the ticks looking that way? Looks like we should get a temperature...

    How to manage this?

Musher's Secret. I apply it to the nose area multiple times a day when hunting.....not rubbing it in, i let it so it looks like frosting. I also do this below the eyes on the face when he isn't wearing Rex Specs goggles. Same goes for front arm pits and bare belly area. Yes, i go through alot...

    Plots guide?

I do this for every trip.....even with OnX on the phone, a tablet in the truck and sometimes my laptop at the lodging . I also put adjoining pages back to back and run them thru the laminater. They stay in one piece better that way!

Memorable quotes to think about as the bird seasons approach

I put this quote attributed to Henry David Thoreau on a photo I took going out fishing in Cabo years back for a canvas print. I would think the thought applies to "hunting" as well.......

    Hand Signals

As a lab guy that hunts waterfowl too, I have to be able to handle my dog, especially on blind retrieves and multiples, so yes I do. I always have 2 good whistles on me, but I worked in the "vibrate" with whistle when he was young and got good on the whistle and casts. So in the field, if I...

    Quick clot gauze-what brand?

I second airmedic. Do not buy any knock off of it from Amazon. Some knock offs have a hemostatic agent that generates heat, not good. QuikClot changed their agent years back to a quagulant only, no heat.

Do you add anything to your dogs water while hunting

The best water supplement that I have found is Kinetic Hydro30K. I run a 5 gallon sport cooler with spigot of it in the truck to fill up his water bottles for in my vest, to fill up his dish for breaks at the truck. The water bucket back at whatever lodging I'm at is mixed with it too. My lab...
