    2024 gear review...what worked and what didn't?

Worked well: BioAmmo Steel 3s, Teague Titanium extended chokes IC top and bottom, not bothering with Kansas, Missouri, Iowa or Minnesota, my 8 year old Lab, switching to a mesh ball cap, getting access to private land in SoDak, ditch hunting, going on destination trips for multiple days instead...

    16 gauge

If you’re still looking, I have decided to sell all my guns and have one 16 left - a Citori Superlight in very good condition, with a full range of extended aftermarket choke tubes. $2000 plus shipping. I also have a lot of 16 ga ammo, but I can’t imagine it would be worth it to ship.

New O/U 20 GA for Pheasant and Ruffed Grouse

I was really hoping they would release a 20 ga 725 Lightning Feather at shotshow.

    Your "Go-To" gun and why?

I’m looking for a new love. Not sure I’ve found it. Gave up my 870s cause of littered hulls, gave up my 16s cause of littered wads. I’m a man without a country right now.

    Pheasant Fest 2025 KC

I don’t often go out for steak here (or anywhere). There is no reason too if you have access to a good butcher shop. There’s nothing a professional chef can do that you can’t at home. There are some good fried chicken places but nothing worth making a trip for.

Iowa wants to buy all the southern-most counties in Minnesota

State government will make you lose your faith in representative democracy. Every one of them I have had the displeasure of interacting with has been a collection of dorks, losers, imbeciles and manchildren. Glad to see Iowa also does not send its best minds to the statehouse.

    Pheasant Fest 2025 KC

Some excellent BBQ suggestions in this thread. I love to see people who know they way around the KC BBQ scene. The other standouts that haven’t been mentioned (and all the ones mentioned are excellent) are Chef Js, and Wolfe Pack. There’s also a phenomenal taco and street Mexican food scene in...

End of shooting hours,? for evening hunters

There are no limits on shooting hours for small game in Missouri. But...I don't bird hunt much here, anyway.

    Flinty Hills

It's pretty remarkable to see. Just as remarkable for me has been watching the cedars invade just over the half century of my life.

    Looking for a New O/U

I switched back to 12 ga guns for pheasants this season and went with a Citori 725 Feather Superlight. I don't weigh guns, but its light. I'm not recoil sensitive, but I've shot probably 50 rounds at pheasants this season and haven't noticed anything stiffer than when I hunted with 16s or 20s...

    Report from NW

I hunted very briefly in northwest a couple weeks ago, probably 5 hours total. I put up 6 pheasants and one lone chicken on a combo of very good private and one WIHA tract, behind a very experienced lab and a coming on spaniel. The private was pretty discouraging, but it was also a very small...

    Pressure?

WIHA should be greatly reduced or eliminated. Residents should get a couple weekends of access before non-Residents. Guiding/access to wildlife in exchange for money should be tightly regulated and the state should make a lot of money on it to fund wildlife conservation. iWIHA should be...
