    Drought in the West

We moved our annual float trip in a Colorado from June 1 to April due to water levels.. it’s scary dry. El Niño is supposedly on the way but damn it’s dry up there. What little snow they had is gone, runoff normally happens in may

    Pigeon loft

If you’re in a time crunch or don’t want to build buy a prefab chicken coop. Good enough for a stinky pigeon

    Dremel works great.

SDGFP Nest Predator Program for 2026

I’d rather see coyotes on the land than a bunch of nest raiders.. swathers and silage choppers being the most brutal of the bunch

    Getting Down to Brass Tacks

Put and take has its place depending on where you live, I get it. But driving to the motherland of pheasants in sd to shoot released birds is like making dinner reservations at del frisco’s and getting a grilled cheese.

That’s a kick in the nuts, draw some scales on that birds chest it could be an inbred blue quail!

2026 Upland is out for us.

I agree with the out of staters training pre season on the birds. They get enough pressure already, if they let residents so be it. And if you do charge them more it’s dirt cheap to do it

That’s how you can wait to hunt a dog until 2 years old. Thats a lot of kibble

    How young’s too young?

In general yes, got a couple setups I’m going to try on the older dogs this month before the pup shows up.

    How young’s too young?

I’m getting a new setter pup this spring and one hole in my training in the past that showing up is work on birds on the ground the dog can see. Pigeons in launchers are a great tool but dont help with this temptation. I’ve picked up some drills and excited to take this on!

    Lesser prairie chicken

Was there a day when they were strong in population on your place or county, the stories of pass shooting flocks is something I wish I could have witnessed.. grandpa told me stories of that, almost got the impression they were a nuisance when chasing pheasants.

Dogs teach us more than we teach them anyway!
