Prairie Grouse, partridge, and other assorted upland birds

Hank Shaw has some great ideas. I agree that you have to cook them to AT MOST medium rare. Same with ducks and geese....though, divers should be marinated a bit.

Anyone finding any 16 ga Shells

I just buy my stuff right from Federal these days. Wait for when they're available and buy a case or two.

What trips do you have planned for this year

North Dakota in Oct. for pheasants, sharpies and huns, and the same maybe in Dec. as well. South Dakota for pheasants in Oct. or Nov., grouse, geese and doves in Wisconsin in Sept. and Oct. Then deer in Nov. Probably pheasants in MN.

    Sharptail Grouse Season Closure

ND has plenty and should be a good year.

    Browning BPS 16 ga.

I've had a 16 gauge BPS for a few years. Solid and reliable. Weighs a bit much at 7 lbs but perfect for waterfowl and is a reliable back up for pheasants. The only problem I've had is that when using Fiocchi shells they often fail to pump out of the chamber. Never had problems with winchester or...

    Which upland semi-auto for pheasant?

My buddy picked up a nice, used 11-48 Rem 20 gauge with Mod. choke for under $400. It has worked great for him with pheasants for three yrs now. I know they can be hard to find but wow that's a good gun. I use a new model Browning a5 sweet 16 and has been wonderful however, a bit over the price.

LOOKING FOR 16 GAUGE AMMO IN NORTHERN IL

I order directly from Federal and Boss. Gets to me quickly and though a bit more expensive, I have not been disappointed.

No Federal Prairie Storm- Clear skies in MN

I've been ordering directly from the federal website. Usually get the ammo within the week but there have been a few times where it takes weeks. Demand is high.

What hunts are you planning for the upcoming season

North Dakota for two weeks for sharpies, pheasants, and hopefully a hun or two. SD for a week in November, several trips to wisconsin for grouse, dove, deer, and waterfowl and probably several weekend trips here and there in MN for pheasants.

    What size shot???

Haven't taken or hunted quail but I do take the occasional hun while hunting pheasants in the dakota's....as well as sharpies. Both of the latter are pretty easy to take but a bit larger than quail. If hunting only those I'd use 7.5. I use #6 early for the combo but later in the season I use...

    Favorite O/U 16 gauge?

I just saw Joe's sporting Goods in St. Paul had a 16 gauge O/U Citori (new). I'm assuming you're in Iowa because of the "Hawkey" name so....might be worth a drive. Bought a couple 16's from them and great service.

    Favorite O/U 16 gauge?

I have a 2019 Citori Shot show special 525. It is my favorite shotgun. Killed a lot of pheasants. Had a Franchi Instinct SL and also, killed a lot of birds but the latter just didn't fit well. I didn't shoot it consistently and given its incredible light weight, though a great gun to carry in...
