So far this season I have hunted the flats 6 times, but only one Rooster and a few Quail. I have hunted closer to home (Okeene), but we only have Quail and no Pheasant. I usually get into birds but I end up doing what I do best, missing. The drive and anticipation is as strong as ever, however...

Third time hunting at Drummond Flats since the season opened, Dec.1st. First two times out I missed a rooster each time that were gimmies. When I shoot and the bird keeps flying, I mark up to "a dead bird" kept flying. This way a don't miss. Does that count as "letting the bird go?"

Was the Mopar auction south of Aberdeen about 15 miles at a farm site, W. of Mansfield.

I use the 1970's Ithaca auto loader 300XL model. Never had one problem in any weather or shooting low or hi base. The only thing is that it doesn't not have the screw-in chocks like the newer models. Hunt Grouse, Pheasant and Quail. It has two barrels IC and Modified.

Bob, You would surprised/shocked how many released pheasants you have shot thinking they were wild birds on public lands/ditches. Maybe you wouldn't be so boisterous about the dreaded 'nare flares.' Don't let your ego override reality.

Sounds good, let me know. Went out this a.m. quail hunting around Okeene and GunnR pointed a covey and of course, as usual, I missed. I usually hunt in the morning, so if you can make out to Drummond whatever time is best for you I'll meet ya.

My only time hunting out west is when I drove to Woodward to hunt Cooper WMA. Spoke by phone to the Sr. Game Biologist for Cooper he told me that the Quail population this season was the best for many yrs. Upon that advice I made the 72 mile trek. Well, I must of hunted the wrong area because I...
