    Ground-pounding opinions

Not wearing some orange when hunting is bush league. Required or not.

    Hunting in cheatgrass?

Do you Idaho/Utah/Nevada guys, or those who have hunted there or hunt there regularly, feel there is a safe time to turn the dogs loose in cheatgrass for Chukar? According to the internet (vets, hunting websites, blogs, etc.), the most dangerous time for cheatgrass awns is summer. And, it...

Do you carry a dog first aid kit while hunting and if so what should be in one

OK, if you really want to get rid of the skunk smell instantly, get this: Skout's Honor. You won't regret it. A spray bottle is clutch as it makes applying the product much, much easier. Get some dish gloves as well to keep the stank off you while applying. You can thank me later. As for first...

    Montefeltro or Ethos ?

We have two Montes and both have been excellent. A proper stock fitting may be in order but worth the $ if necessary IMO.

    Factory Crimp Deforming Over Time?

Just got back from a tough week in Montana. Got into enough birds to keep it interesting, but they were few and far between. Noticed a few times during the week that certain shells would not load, usually when needed most. We missed some shots due to the deformed crimp because the shell...

Grass Awn's - DEADLY for your dog

Yes, me too. It came up early this year because we're looking at buying property in Idaho that would be used for training/hunting, and it's currently infested with noxious plants that have awns (cheatgrass, medusahead, foxtail). We're in discussions with the county extension service about...

    Nasty little habits

My male wirehair (and the bitch to some extent) LOVE to eat grass this time of year. Drives me nuts. Mostly because it makes pooping interesting, and stringy, at times.

    Best Roto Molded Kennel

Dakota x 2 for me. I have two wirehairs, one about 65 lbs and the other 59 lbs. The medium crate is perfect. I added the crate pad made by Dakota, and my dogs are happy. That said, I try to limit their time in that crate to <3 hrs.

    Aberdeen area

I've always stayed in either chain hotels or Airbnbs in/around Aberdeen. As others have noted, most all hotels in the area allow dogs, but fees vary greatly so check before booking. Given how popular upland hunting is in the area, I would have though there would be a larger selection of Airbnbs...

    Ticks

Same. We find a dead tick here and there but generally no live ones. Just saw the first (dead) tick about a week ago in my part of Colorado.

    First day in Western Nebraska

Season before last, I had a NE game warden tell me to carry buckshot and shoot any coyotes I see. He was dead serious. Said they’re one of the key reasons bird numbers are bad.

    2025 Pheasant Season out west/midwest

The hunting in western NE and eastern CO has been very poor the past 5 years. I’d skip those in favor of more productive states. You can find a bird here and there but it’s honestly not worth the cost of the license for either state in my opinion. I live in CO and don’t even bother to pheasant...
