    2025 WI Pheasant Thread

19.5” wide. I also killed a really nice bull in Wyoming during archery season so I was only shooting something that was going on the wall as I didn’t need meat. It was the only deer I had on camera that I was going to shoot, I’d rather be lucky than good. Back to pheasants though, we flushed 4...

Shot him at 1130 chasing a doe. Found him 10 yards past where I last saw him, got lucky and hit the femoral.

    2025 WI Pheasant Thread

This morning I hit the tether on my saddle and hit guts on a whitetail I’ve waited 25 years for a chance at so I figured I may as well go pheasant hunting to get my mind off it before I head out tomorrow to look. Only had an hour and picked a spot close to daycare. A guy was just finishing up...

We’ve killed 5 so far in about 5-6 hunts. Have seen quite a few pheasants, flushing lots of hens. Even had a brood of 5 or 6 roosters get up wild earlier in the week, think ill be back at the golden hour in a week or two. Hoping the weather changes a bit to get rid of the fair weather guys.

    Pheasant hunting north west Wisconsin

I opted for the cabin this weekend and left all my normal public land spots for the opening weekend army. Pleasantly surprised. Cover was good. Walked about 2 hours and 2 different spots and put up 5 hens, and killed both roosters flushed. One was young of the year and the other was an older...

    Spring wild turkey

Had plenty of action for the youth hunt here in WI. I’ve killed plenty of pheasants with my oldest on my back when he was younger but it was his turn to tote the gun. Opening morning had 4 Toms within 20 yards but it just didn’t work out, but the afternoon on day 2 it all came together and he...

The puppy comment was more in jest. I’ve gotten rather used to my old bird dog listening haha. I enjoy seeing it start to click in the field, and know there’s only one way to get there. The 3 kids under 7 may make it a bit of a challenge but every kid should grow up with a dog or two, dreading...

We finished our season with one last SD trip last weekend, tried to get my brother to delay it to this weekend due to the weather as I was taking him and his oldest son on their first trip but no luck. Day 1 was 30-40 mph winds with gusts to 55, wasn’t too terribly cold but completely...

Getting pretty heavy in the facial salt department but he turns 9 this year. Unfortunately I’m looking at taking my stud fee this year; starting another puppy sounds like a nightmare but that’s what we all sign up for.

I was able to get my nephew his first rooster on Monday. Made a nice crossing 40 yard shot and stoned him, you only get one first rooster. December sucked for the most part, we only killed 3 and birds were few and far between. Monday I took my nephews out to my late season private spots and we...

December I’ve hit a bit of a wall, the no snow has made it tough. Still flushing birds every trip out, but a lot of brown; this guy broke a 25+ hen in shotgun range stretch. Nice cackle too. Up to 18 in WI, been a great year. Called the tipline as some idiots dumped a bunch of geese on the side...

In your opinion, how many public land pheasants in the bag would make for a successful season?

I keep pretty good notes, my golden will be 9 in January and I have a detailed log of how many birds we've killed and in which state. 15 has been a good average for WI over the last 9 years for me, this year a little better as I'm at 17 and still have a month of season to hunt yet. Bird...

    Pheasant hunting north west Wisconsin

Hunting continues to be good, putting multiple birds up every trip although sometimes not roosters. They’ve moved into the thick thermal cover. Even found a released reject last week that sat just tight enough.
