    A sign of getting old.

I used to laugh at my Grandfather and Father when they would get one. They would lock up and just stand there in pain for a few minutes. I'd roll in laughter. They always said "one day you'll be here, and it won't be so funny anymore. You just wait." Let's just say I don't laugh at them...

    A sign of getting old.

Yep, its lack of hydration. I get them in my quad or hamstring sometimes, almost always after a day of high-stepping through snow while pheasant hunting. It's not necessarily an age thing either. I started getting them in my early 30's. Sometimes they are so painful you feel like passing...

    2025 season reports

Also forgot to mention that on the way home, about a mile down the road, I saw about 40 pheasants and 20 wild turkeys feeding together in a picked corn field. I pulled over to watch them for a few minutes. The turkeys can dig up the snow much easier using their more powerful legs.

    2025 season reports

I hunted for about 2.5 hours today. The walking is tough. Many areas are blown in and drifted up. The only areas that survived are areas with trees, or standing corn. Not even cattails are worth it because they aren't froze good. I took one step in and went through a little so I backed out...

Snowfall - It could get pretty tough out there

Every few years we seem to get this deeper snow sometime in December before the season ends. This year its come especially early. Makes for tough walking, both man and dog. Saps your energy very quickly. A guy can only trudge through knee deep snow for so long. The only good thing about it...

How should I have handled this

I assume it was from barb wire. There is countless miles of that old rusted crap out there.

Pheasants Forever- SCAM or do they help upland hunters?

Except when its in Minneapolis, right? Funny how its a great event to attend but only when it fits the location narrative that an individual favors...

Pheasants Forever- SCAM or do they help upland hunters?

Oh I see now it's time to rip on Minnesota again. I went to the P/Q fest in Mpls a few years ago on free tickets and it was kinda lame IMO. Not really what I was expecting.

How should I have handled this

That's unfortunate. I had that happen in 2023 on a front leg of my dog. Went to the vet that afternoon and they cleaned, disinfected, and then stapled the wound. No running, jumping, or hunting for 14 days. It was pretty much completely healed up by day 15.

    Feral cat!!!!!

The lion spotted in Duluth is from western South Dakota (Black Hills). It's a rogue male that has a tracking collar. My wife knows there's two deal breakers if she wants to get rid of me. Take up smoking or bring home a cat. Every one that is eliminated saves dozens of upland birds.

Snowfall - It could get pretty tough out there

It's gonna be tough sledding in many areas moving forward because of deep snow. Seems like many areas in SD, MN, and IA have this problem now.

Snowfall - It could get pretty tough out there

Someone posted that the Aberdeen area got about 10-11 inches of snow.

Snowfall - It could get pretty tough out there

Really deep snow and/or a layer of ice is bad news. Usually we don't get big, vast systems of ice. It's more of a localized event. This is the coldest and start to winter in 11 years.

Snowfall - It could get pretty tough out there

I'm in Minnesota and its the same here now. All the grass is flattened, some areas have drifted up deep already. Hunting is going to be tough the last month of the season simply from walking stand point. Quite a change from the last few seasons when it was barren all the way through December.
