Hunting the public ROW - Thoughts?

I leave for SD today and have hunted the ROW most trips.. So I feel like I should know the following answer.. usually i just err on the side of caution but I tried to brush up on the regs last night and couldn’t find a particular distance from the centerline or what amount of the ditch...

    The flush

The only watchable pheasant videos (for me at least) are solo hunters with their dog/dogs. I don't see the appeal in marching in a line of multiple guys and screaming "ROOSTER/HEN" when a bird gets up. When it comes to Youtube I think Eric Forrester is the best to do it. Wish he had more...

    Boots , what ya like?

Crispi Upland Pro's have been pretty good to me.. My Shimek's last year were good down into the single digits. I wouldn't own anything but Cripi's.

    Ground-pounding opinions

In my videos I typically run a slo-mo replay of each bird I shoot, sometimes I can hear the safety clicking off when I’m mounting the gun. I cannot for the life of me imagine just walking around with the safety off. Realistically I’m never touching the trigger anyways, but come on.. if people...

South Dakota Pheasant Hunting Is Changing, Or Has Changed

I typically hunt near popular SD pheasant destinations/towns, and I think I can count on one hand how many times I’ve wanted to hunt a spot but someone was already there. I hope everyone goes to fancy lodges and lets me have free rein of the public. I always hear “the public has been pounded”...

Can anyone provide me with a motel referral in NW that allows dogs??

Rent an AirBnb... You'll likely get an entire house for the same price as a hotel. A full kitchen, fridge, and some privacy are priceless. I don't see the benefit of a hotel.

    2025/2026 Pheasant Hunting Videos

Tough start to the season losing Marty until December.. Larry is carrying the torch for now. Not my best work, and definitely not my best shooting, but in a few weeks I'll post my SD videos, and those should be fantastic. Doubt anyone else will be able to post a video this year where they find a...

    Injury Help

Update: doc checked out the leg and was able to recreate some discomfort when moving it away from his body.. thinks the issue is with tendons or ligaments on the inside of shoulder, going back tomorrow for some PRP injections, he thinks that’s the best course of action. He said the November SD...

    Wet Crispi Boots

In my experience the Upland Pro's fit just like my Shimek's.. Honestly call their customer service.. When I did a real person answered immediately without any weird menu options. He was awesome and answered every question I had. My boots had some very minimal fraying on some of the stitching and...

    Injury Help

Have an appointment scheduled with the best person around.. vet out of Green Bay who breeds setters.. said he’s very confident he’ll find out exactly what’s wrong. He’s in Seattle right now but gave me his cell and we’ve been texting back and forth about the injury. Said it appears to be a...

    Injury Help

I’m in Oshkosh, I have an appointment at my normal vet for Wednesday.. but when I looked up Country Hills Dr. Thompson looks pretty great. I might see if they can get me in, we’re on strict couch arrest right now and only going outside on a leash. If he was let off the leash he’d sprint all...

    Injury Help

Went to two emergency vets in about 12 hours 3 weeks ago.. they essentially said nothing major appeared to be wrong. Give him some rest and reevaluate. He was sprinting around like a mad man retrieving ducks a couple days ago.. and then yesterday after about 90 minutes of pheasant hunting he...

    Injury Help

Long story short, Marty hurt his front right leg/shoulder and I’m wondering if anyone in Wisconsin has had a dog that needed surgery/rehab and where they might have gone? He was given two weeks of rest, seemed to be 100%, and then after a 90 minute hunt he was limping pretty bad once again...

    2025/2026 Pheasant Hunting Videos

I look forward to adding to this thread every year and watching everyone’s dogs progress. I can’t wait to see Nila turn into a retrieving machine by the end of the year. I do get a laugh out of hearing the frustration when she doesn’t, we’ve all been there (or at least I have with Larry), and...
