    Late 1950s Sweet 16

I have two and neither have ever jammed. A true nostalgic gunning experience.

    Meat handling while traveling

We clean birds at the end of each day, leave whole with leg intact, and ice. We transport home, wash birds thoroughly, cut off leg, and vacuum seal for freezing...

    Corn progress in SD

They will start on beans over the coming week in my area (SE SD). They believe corn will be out by 2nd weekend of season.

    Looking good!

My farmers still saying they are loaded with birds.

How many of you let birds go?

We let 90% go because nobody wants to mistakenly shoot a hen.

    Prairie Grouse

I'm along the 44 corridor so got to get a little further west down there. At least that's what I've found.

    Prairie Grouse

I do it west river the day before pheasant opener. Take snake boots and have dogs inoculated for prairie rattlers.

Looking for a place to hunt

Call the Platte Chamber of Commerce and see if they have a list of local farmers. They used to. https://www.platteareachamber.com/

My farmers in SE SD tell me their corn is on auto pilot but the beans need about another 1/2" or so of rain and they will be fine.

They say that barring a very wet late summer or early fall, crops should be 2/3 to mostly out by the opener.

Update to the optimism post earlier!!

A buddy of mine just got back from SE SD and he says the pheasants are thick! He said the most encouraging thing is what the locals are saying in terms of 24 season survivors, excellent moisture, and size of surviving broods. Looking good for sure. Come on October!
