Kerrybrook's Wisdom of the Ancients (Pearl)

You’re most welcome Fldbred- glad you enjoyed the post. When you have a sec fire me a PM with the link to where you posted in the other forum please. Yeah, Nova Scotia is a bit of a tricky place to hunt for non residents. The private land and associated laws complicates things of course, but...

Kerrybrook's Wisdom of the Ancients (Pearl)

Apologies for a fair bit of repetitions from my posts earlier, but I stitched together a highlight reel of Pearl and I’s 2018 season. Also, if you’re waiting for a flush and kill shot, sorry - there aren’t any. I don’t film until we’ve limited our except for retrieves. Keep my eye on the...

    Goldens vs. Labs

Harder to find a good hunting golden line I think. But I’ve hunted over one and she’s similar to a good lab in finding, flushing and retrieving. In this case, any differences between the golden and the labs have more to do with differences in training than in the breeds of dog. Biggest...

Looking for a left hand Pheasant gun

I considered a lefty montefeltro and loved the fit and feel. If you like it and if it fits you in the lefty setup then I expect thats a great choice for you, especially if you are used to the brand. Is the location of the safety the same as on your other gun? I find that important when...

Looking for a left hand Pheasant gun

I have this gun in left hand for waterfowl. It’s a great fit with the adjustable shims I set it to very close to my custom fit stock measurements that I had done for steam bending my OUs. Love the xplor for its toughness (I hutn a lot of salty mud flats) and reliability but I find it a “big”...

    Cast Off in Stock Helps

I agree. I shoot southpaw, and getting my stock steam-bent to cast-on was life-changing. Old school gunsmith from Belgium now living on the outskirts of Montreal measured me up and then kept my shotgun all winter (low humidity allows him to ensure a good ‘set’ of the stock bending). It now...

    Great Retrieve

What a feeling eh?! Congrats on the great dog work! I had a similar experience to the double you described above and Pearl rooted them out. I ran into a colleague later that day and she asked me what I was grinning about! LOL I realized that I was still just so darned pleased with my morning...

Heel Blister Prevention Tips and Tricks?

When I was a kid my father would tell me every time before heading afield - you can ask me to stop 10 times a day to ‘prevent’ blisters and I won’t get mad. We’ll put on dry socks, a dab of Vaseline, moleskin or dust tape and tighten your boots. But ask me to stop ONCE to TREAT a blister that...

Kerrybrook's Wisdom of the Ancients (Pearl)

Nova Scotia pheasant season ended on Saturday. Having lost permission on a few important covers this year, but gained only one new one, I pressured my remaining spots that much harder and the last few weeks have seen me hunting very well educated roosters who were, frankly tired of my bull####...

Kerrybrook's Wisdom of the Ancients (Pearl)

Thanks FLDBRED! Minus 18 C (0F) is definitely on the cold side of a usual Nova Scotian pheasant hunt, but it’s the last week goddamit so Pearl and I headed out to watch a sparkling sunrise before heading down into the cover. The colder the better as far as Pearl is concerned. Loving it...

    Off to a running start!

We did indeed have a very nice October, although over the past few days we got a helluva lot of rain. Those covers are riverbank spots, so I’m not sure what will be there to greet me tomorrow morning! I’m sneaking out for a few hours between work commitments have been pulling me away from it...

    Off to a running start!

Got back from a successful two-tag moose hunt with my old high school buddies from back home, dropped my young dry cow hind quarter off at the butcher, kissed the wife, picked up Pearl and headed out to pop the top on bird season. Then went out the next day and did it again!
