Loan your dogs to a buddy?

Hunted ND in December 3 or 4yrs ago by myself, no dog. Stopped at a farm to ask for permission to hunt. Turns out where I wanted to hunt was the farmer's dad’s place. We jawed for a good hour and then he mentioned his son was home from school, and then stunned me by offering to let me take his...

Weight of labs and golden retrievers

You hit the nail on the head. We mostly hunted thicker cover areas, the bulldozer would dive into the thickest cover while the smaller chocolate female would hunt the lighter cover and edges. It was a beautiful combo and it didn’t matter during Phes, Quail, or dove season, we never lost a single...

Weight of labs and golden retrievers

Gotta agree on the big dog and heavy cover. Back in the day, we came across a deep silage pit? on an abandoned farm, which was now full of tumbleweeds, and a few inches of fresh snow on top, with bird tracks everywhere. We snuck up and I sent my dog in and he burrowed right in. Within a few...

    Unfriendly Kansas. What's happened here?

Well, memories fade, so it did 35 years ago where the sun don’t shine. Anyway I was referring mostly to the law enforcement, but your post confirms the negative waves from the yocals.

    Unfriendly Kansas. What's happened here?

Its Kansas culture in general. We hunted there in the mid 80s. Colby Kansas, 5 in the morning just cracking daylight, in town on a sunday, the only car on the road except for the only cop in town, pulled us over for not coming to a complete stop, on a back side street leaving town. You know...

    Every trick in the book

I have never seen high wire birds. They would be living dangerously. The area we hunted has lots of hawks. My brother and I jumped a field with tons of birds and even as we were shooting a hawk was dive bombing in trying to grab one. Happened twice in different times/areas.

    Every trick in the book

Hunting late season years ago, 2-3 guys with a lab, right after a snow storm of 2 ft, hunting some cattails, the water was frozen and the cattails mostly laid down and snow covered. Dog was on a scent and difficult going. Out of the corner of my eye I see what I thought was a weasel or muskrat...
