What Happened To Our Quail? Observations of an Old Quail Hunter.

It's all death by a thousand cuts. Fescue monoculture, pesticides, herbicides, woody growth, fall plowing, no agriculture crop diversity, BIG fields. First it's the nesting-brood cover, next it's the lack of insects which are 100% protein and absolutely required to grow baby quail, then the lack of weed seeds, with open understory to dust, gather grit, protection from predators. Now we know we need a lot of ground to this specific purpose, pessimistically, some experts think a township, ( 32 sections) which had commonality to resurrect the quail, to huntable populations. Sometimes it's seems insurmountable. We need the economics to shift back toward us, where the efforts, will get us more value.
