What are you doing to get ready for the upcoming season?

So the last few years I have allowed my weight and lack of exercise get out of hand. I was miserable in the field last year and really was questioning if I would go on long trips anymore. About 2 months ago I decided I didn’t want to go out that way. I am now at the gym 5 days a week at 5am. Cut out bread products and refined sugar. Now while still not at MR universe level, I am down 30 lbs and feel pretty darn good. I have to keep up with this 18 month old fireball dog.
Couple years back I felt the same way, lost almost 50 was able to sustain 30. Learned what foods to stay away from and no more full strength Dew! Wanna lose 15 before season starts, also gonna start stretching my hips. Walking all that tall grass last year did a number on groin and hips.

We are finally seeing some low 50's in the mornings here in Southern In. Crops are turning fast. Trees are starting to turn. It's time to bop some squirrels and catch some fish for the freezer. The crops get out and it'll be time to run dogs and making some plans!!

Thanks Birdman2. I struck out on Kansas chickens this morning. Back on the road. Hopefully I do little better on sharptails this evening.

I’ll drink the vinegar off of a jar of green olives. Does the trick and doesn’t taste half bad
Brown, Where are you chasing chickens? What state?

The Dog:
I work Phin almost every day with play/training exercises. Dummys, multiple dummy directed retrieves, blind and water retrieves and hiking around the area.
With about 4 weeks to go it’s time to get serious. I always have a few whole Pheasants in the freezer. I hide them in the brush and low branches before I take him out for “play” time. Start the exercise and watch him suddenly pick up bird scent and home in on the stashed birds. Once that happens he could care less about dummies, balls or anything else I work him with. All he wants to do is find the birds.

Me:
Chomping at the bit to get on the road.

What are you doing to get ready for the upcoming season? So far I’ve purchased a new pair of boots and working on getting them broken in. Started to review the ammo supply. Shopping for a different over/under because…… well because. Added another black lab to the pack last spring as one can never have too many hunting companions. This little fire breather will not only be a great hunting partner but should be a fun one to run derbies after the hunting season ends.
So what are you doing to get ready for the season?
I am reloading enough shells to get me through another year and hoping that reloading components are more available than in past years.

Walking three miles per day after leaving the office. Taking it to five miles per day twice per week this week. It aint enough but it'll have to do.

Ok here's the thing.I don't like hunting with my cousin, because he's a hen shooting fool. However he is good at talking to farmers.
We all have to wonder Goose, why can't you pretend to be mentally handicapped and gain permission yourself? That would alleviate the issue of having to hunt with the hen-shooting fool.

Nobody would grant permission to that type of person alone. Goose needs to be there as the "voice of reason", as it were, to ensure for the landowner that nothing will get out of hand (the occasional hen being acceptable collateral damage). Makes perfect sense. 😆
